There's a more solid plot in this sequel but it's never for the sake of having the characters fight large-scale battles against youkai demons to achieve some universal goals or some shit, it's more on having new characters introduced to add backgrounds to our two main leads. For the first half of the story we're greeted with this mysterious eye-patch dude Yakumo (who looks like evil Hijikata) with Shion revealing to be his companion. It then progressed into a hunt for the "Sengo Murasame" blade which was made a big deal out of in the story. Hisame's dad once wielded this blade so flashbacks were told for this reason & also used conveniently to explore other characters' pasts as well.  A competition was held at mount Kouya to find the blade but after all that was over the second half of the plot just leans towards Itsuki's increasing blood siblings. Mentions of the blade were practically non-existent.  I've also grown to love Shion and his unapologetic mouth, that last part where he exposes Hisame's veiled superiority complex for allowing Itsuki to follow him is just absolute *chef's kiss*. Dun hate Hisame tho if anything it's his exalted "good nature", I thank Shion for ratting that part of him out. DUN give someone false hope by being nice to them when you'll just hurt the other party at the end.  Overall this is a huge improvement from the last one, no there's no hint of BL since they'll just remain friends. It's more on the action & the peeps' past meetings, and how they mend their relationships again in the present, you be getting a harem of Itsuki's brotherhood and more young Itsuki X Hisame moments!
