When I watched the Togainu no Chi anime, I had certain expectations, considering how the VN was made. When I found a way to read some of the released mangas for TnC, I held the same expectations — now, with the knowledge that inserting the whole plot of a long, story-heavy visual novel like TnC, and choosing which path to use, is, in fact, very hard.
However, I was kind of disappointed. Kind of.
I find the artstyle good. Not the best I've ever seen, but pretty good. Some drawings made from certain points of view were, certainly, the highlights of this artist's style. Like these.
What did bother me, however, was the obvious. There was a shit ton of plot compression, because of:
1. The number of characters to explore;
2. The not-very-good mix of item 1 with the main plot, outside the pre-established romance paths;
3. The tight number of chapters.
I'm being pretty confident when I say that someone who just goes ahead and read this will not, by any means, feel the same connection with the characters, or be as inserted in this universe, as they would be playing the game itself. I'm not sure if this manga was just made to bait people into playing the VN and neither do I care. I believe if this manga was actually made with calm & care, it would be more popular.
Overall: good artstyle, rushed story. Doesn't show the glory Toshima has in its slighest. Giving it a 10/10 bc that's the rating I would give to the already existing characters in their original story and 10/10 to art because well, I liked it. Overall is still 5/10 because of the rushing factor.
