This Villain Emperor's Gotta Charm the Male Lead to Survive! - Reviews

I have a love-hate relationship with this one. On one hand the characters are awesome and I was so invested in them the deaths really got me emtional. However the story gradually becomes a mess in the second half. Around chapter 50 the author starts making the MC obsessed over "The plot of the original story".

It's all just a plot device for more yaoi scenes ofc, but it's over used to the extents that it starts to take a toll on the plot. I really wanted to enjoy some of the later love scenes but his 'oblivious' internal dialog ruined it for me at times. It was unbelievably frustrating. How can the MC do so much with another guy and still not even think he's gay even though he's been in love with the ML for like 5 years now? It's MADDENING, that's not a slow burn author-san, its a PLOTHOLE!

I love this, but hate to love it.

An actual soap opera.  The angsty tale of two souls doomed to eternal miscommunication because when it's BL that means it's two men and Men Don't Communicate. 

A CEO gets isekai'd into the body of a villainous Emperor of a web novel he liked under the assumptions that Canon Is Always Right (and thus, the male lead must be heterosexual) and a good amount of the first season holds a somewhat comical tone.  However, and there is little I can say without spoilers so I'm doing my best here, this is NOT a lighthearted manhua overall and is very dramatic.  Very Soap Opera.  Subplots in subplots in subplots- the content warning for suicide is there for a reason, there's violence and betrayal and Ancient Chinese Court Style Intrigue and really, you'll be glued to the screen wanting to know what happens next. 

It's very well written.  And addictive. 

I'm still constantly yelling at the main ship for not using their words like adults though. 

I really enjoyed this manhwa! It is a complete masterpiece! I want more chapters!!! ￣Д￣＝３

I give it a solid EIGHT. It was a great read.

The first thing I would like to point out. It's a Chinese manhua. If you've been reading manga, manhwa, OEL, and manhuas since your teen years as I did...you understand what I am talking about. The pacing, word structure, mood, and thoughts are different from any manhwa or manga. So you have to be patient and understanding.

The plot? It's great. We're talking historical here. (yeah, yeah...it's fantasy but still) So it's natural for the plot to be twisted...over and over again.

Why did I like it so much? Well...it's an isekai. A rich, modern guy reincarnates as a king of a fallen to-be empire...who is doomed to die. He is doing everything in his power to change it...yet fails..except for one thing - the original male lead's feelings. 

I appreciated all the secondary character's life stories. It was a solid background built. I ached to watch them die one by one. It was truly agonizing. I also appreciated that the story wasn't blinded by foolish love. There were many twists and 'goodbyes'. It was needed, it was understandable. My masochistic self was fed well.(you'll know what I mean when you read 3/4 of the story)

And..the extra chapters were like a cherry on top. muah

I can't give it a 10 since it's a manhua. Even though it sounds rude...but the art and pacing is not what I find perfect. However, the author created a marvelous piece of work and I had a great time reading it.

Totally recommend this one. 

Oh waow this was actually good. It actually made me want to read it from start to the end! <3

But ofcourse it is a cliche and I have read something like this many times before but it is still good!

I loved it ended an happy ending (chapter 115) then there was 7 special episodes that was in the ML original world that was so cool and then they wake up in the other world again I really liked that a lot!!!
