This is a retelling of Ray's time as a child and the tough decisions that fe had to make. I think most, if not all, of this information was already included in the main series. So it's not really additive but it does provide some of child Ray's specific thoughts. They could've made some of the discoveries and thought processes more in-depth (like with the discovery that those with the lowest scores get taken away first), but it gets the point across. Fans of the series would probably enjoy the read, but no one would be missing out if they didn't read it.
