The Hellbound

One day, you will receive a message from an unknown sender. The message will only include your name, the fact that you are going to hell, and the time you have left to live. There is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide--no escape. When the time counts down to zero, supernatural beings manifest to condemn you to hell. As the nation falls into unrest, a new religious sect begins to interpret the bizarre occurrence as the will of the divine. Could this be a sign of something grander--a blessing in disguise, a holy reckoning, or an evil curse? Amid social chaos and increasing hysteria, the people must find a way to survive this inexplicable terror.

Probably one of the most captivating and psychologically traumatic comics out today. Each chapter is a tour de force of emotion, religious zealots, beliefs on religion, etc. PLOT The first half of the story is about the introduction of the "New Truth Society" started by Jinsu Jeong after witnessing a farmer getting chased by demons. At first it was small but after time and most important video evidence surfaced Jinsu Jeong started to get more and more followers. The police at first believe that Jinsu is faking everything and start an investigation but after the live stream event of the death of Jeongja Park people suddenly started to look to Jinsu Jeong for guidance. That's the first half. The second part of the story is darker detailing the open secret part if the New Truth Society called the "Arrowheads" which were a small youth religious gang in part 1 that got a lot powerful. But after certain revelations and people getting drunk over their power, the story gets more heart pounding the closer you get to the finish.

I loved the story. It was compelling but it also made me appalled. Every chapter had me cursing cause of how absurd it was - and I mean this in a good way - but I also could stop reading it. It explores how we perceive god and how easily people are manipulated into doing bad things in the name of God - this is what I felt the story was about. Not the phenomenon of monsters condemning you to hell. Interestingly, I saw a lot of comments on chapters each having a different opinion. And I kinda loved it cause even though we were reading the same thing, all of such were grasping onto different things. That is great writing. The reason I haven't rated it 10 is because of the ending. It leaves everything open. I guess that makes sense since it has a drama adaptation where these parts can be explored. But if I think of this webtoon as a stand-alone then, the abrupt ending of the story leaves a bitter taste.
