I read the first book and dropped it.When we look at main points: magic word with beast attacking and defenders trained on academy... main hero considered week on academy, main heroin challanges him, is beaten, fall in love... neutral stance by leader of academy who support main hero but use him as a pawn as well... ...all this are proven and tested cliches which are not surprising, but not bad either. My main problem is, that after reading the book, I have feeling i read prolog to actual story. All ended in preparation for story of second book. And that is pretty bad writing style. The book shoud have its peek and its conclusin. Its drama and tension. Its arc or arcs which are properly finnished. And that I was missing.
