huehuehue butthole huehuehue The storyline is pretty simple, but it also works well in its simplicity. Like a power chord. The overarching goal for our protagonist, Spica, is clear and straightforward and it allows for a variety of subplots and tangential goals. The tension with Claude's situation adds a nice extra layer on top of it as well--allowing Claude to be a bit of a pragmatic jerk while still being willing to help, and also adding a humorous element to the mix. This manga feels like it'll largely be character-based, and I've enjoyed the characters so far. It primarily will focus on the twelve students in Spica's class (or coven, as it's called in the magic school). Each of these twelve students were born under a different zodiac sign and have magical attributes associated with their sign. Spica is a Virgo and uses plant-based magic as a result of that, for example. Limiting the types of magic the characters can use does allow for the power suite type of effect, while still having some structure to it (where all Virgos would use variations of plant magic). There are also some special abilities which some characters have which aren't connected to their astrological signs (like Spica has something known as Rebirth Magic, which is what could eventually help Claude stop being a cat). At times, I wish there were more detail in the backgrounds and I also think the character designs can look a little generically cute, but overall I think the artwork is good.
