Tensei Nanajo de Hajimeru Isekai Life: Bannou Maryoku ga Areba Kizoku Shakai mo Yoyuu de Ikirareru to Kiita no desu ga?!

Myria Kanami's high school life was disastrous. Having an awful father, no friends, and spending her days working part-time summed up her daily routine... But one day, she gets into an accident that takes her life! However, she opens her eyes again, this time, in another world! She has been reincarnated into the body of 8 year-old Myria, the seventh daughter of a poor noble family residing in the countryside. As the thought of finally being released from the arduous high school life crossed her mind, she then dug into her new body's memories --- but, the situation was just as bad as in her old life!

Aspects of escapism have always existed within fictional stories and pop culture, but I'm not sure if it's ever been so prevalent that it's spawned an entire genre with multiple sub-genres. Some isekai storylines might just be using the transmigration to a different world as a way to justify a character having out-of-place knowledge, but quite a few isekai stories are moreso just escapist fantasies where (presumably) readers get enjoyment from putting themselves in the shoes of the characters and allowing themselves to forget about the problems of the real world for a while. And this manga here definitely primarily leans more on that escapist sde of things. It's a power fantasy, where the protagonist Myria is so powerful that fe doesn't need to follow society's rules if fe doesn't want to. So even though Myria is still currently in a pretty shitty familial situation within the story's world, we know that this won't define feir entire life going forward and that eventually fe'll get out of this situation. For readers who are beaten down by the exploitative nature of capitalism and a culture that tends to treat individuals as commodities, this idea of being beyond society's ability to restrict you is probably very appealing. This story is also a piece of wholesome fluff. Specifically, it's like a mixture of a dotey-dotey manga with a shoujo-ai manga. Myria and Chloe have far too many moments of affection expression, at least in my opinion. But this type of wholesomeness is also used very frequently in stories that are intended to "heal the soul" of people who've, again, been beaten down by society. It allows the person to see a world where there's actual kindness and love. It allows readers to turn their brains off for a second and just let the cuteness wash over them. It's like going to a spa or something. Anyway, all that said, I haven't personally found this to be all that entertaining. It has some okay moments, and I could see it potentially developing into something slightly more interesting. But the unnecessarily sexual undertones in the relationship dynamic between Myria and Chloe just kinda rubs me the wrong way. And Myria also hasn't really done anything very interesting with feir magical powers as of yet. [Reviewed at chapter 11]
