But during training the Shadow Clan, who was written out of Japanese boxing history due to its deadly use of the style, kidnaps Kiku in order to lure Ryuji and the others into a fight to see who's truly the better representatives of Japan's junior boxers.

Ryuuji Takane is a young boxer who's determined to make it big and become a champion. His sister, Kiku, stands by his side as his trainer; together, they aim for the top. Ryuuji's first challenge is a middle school boxing tournament in which his arch rival Jun defeats him in the final round, though crippling his own arm in the process. Though victorious, due to his injury Jun suggests Ryuuji take his place in the Champion Carnival, an upcoming competition filled with the strongest of the strong. And so, Ryuuji and Kiku set forth to train hard and prepare for the Champion Carnival. With the help of his newly-learned ‘Boomerang Hook' skill  and sheer will power, Ryuuji will do whatever it takes to win the title!
