Skip and Loafer

Excellent student Iwakura Mitsumi has always dreamt about leaving her small town, going to a prestigious university, and making positive change in the world. But she’s so focused on reaching her goals that she’s not prepared for the very different (and overwhelming) city life that awaits her in a Tokyo high school. Luckily, she makes fast friends with Shima Sousuke, a handsome classmate who’s as laid-back as she is over-prepared. Can this naive country girl make it big in Tokyo with Sousuke by her side?

I think this is one of the only mangas I've read where I can honestly find no fault with it. It's perhaps my single most favorite manga solely because of the characters. Our main character is one of those people who is so genuine and unsuspecting because she doesn't have much experience socializing with tons of people, so she never has bad thoughts about anyone or suspects that anyone is being rude to her. But her genuine nature, although it may annoy people at first, is what really pulls people into her. Her little friend group is just awesome, their chemistry is so refreshing especially considering what types of characters her friends are. They all originally are shown as stereotypical but as some time progresses, they really bloom into their own, they somewhat embody their stereotype but the author does such a great job of expressing that they are so much more than that.  In terms of the romantic plot, it's very wholesome and slow. This manga does something that I really enjoy in romance mangas where the author first establishes the love interest and the mc as great friends first before anything. The relationship between the mc and love interest feels natural and sweet as they both encourage each other to be better versions of themselves. And for those of you who, like me, really care for LGBT rep, we get trans representation in the form of the mc's aunt. You have some slight transphobia, but it's not overbearing. (It's done by random people in public and only once.) The aunt's story and transition feel very realistic, and the relationship between the mc and her aunt is very sweet and loving.  Overall, a very refreshing "slice of life" romance manga that I hold very dear to my heart because it seems to do everything perfectly.
