Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie - Reviews

Shikomori is more than just your average “cute” girl. She’s intelligent, she's good at sports, she’s ultra protective of her disaster magnet boyfriend Izumi, and she... makes “handsome” faces?

My first thought about the premise of this manga was that it’s kind of sexist. Is it really so unusual for a girl to be cool? So what if she’s the strong one in the relationship? I get the feeling that the role reversal aspect is an attempt at equality but to me it has the opposite effect by making Shikimori’s strength of character out to be something unheard of. I also felt that her “dual personality“ was a bit of a cop out, as if having a heroine who wasn’t typically kawaii would be too risky from a marketing point of view.

That said, there’s plenty to like here, and the story was enjoyable enough for me to want to read past the first volume. The artwork isn’t exceptional but I liked the character designs of the two leads, and fan service is notable by its absence, with most of the focus being on Shikimori’s brooding face, and Izumi’s blushing reactions. The jokes hit the mark most of the time, with Izumi’s consistently rotten luck being an amusing running gag. The chaste romance between the couple is sweet.

All in all, while there are a few problems with this manga, it’s an entertaining read which I would recommend to anyone looking for a little light enjoyment.

Honestly, the story is great, the characters are great, the art is awesome, BUT why is there so many times skips like every chapter it changes seasons I swear.

This is an etude in drawing the same character, but using two different art styles to evoke two distinct feelings out of that character: cuteness and coolness. It also engages with gender roles and how it's okay for men to be the protected rather than the protector and for women to be more than just eye-candy. There's no depth, but if you just let the chapters trickle over you, it's alright I guess.

This is adorable. Definitely not trying to be taken too seriously, so enjoy it for what it is: a wholesome little romantic comedy. Definitely a slice of life, so don't expect much by way of high drama.

The characters are likeable and the premise is pretty funny. If you are looking for something to read that is lighthearted and cute, I recommend this.

ohk Let me first review this for me this is just a masterpiece with tons of wholesome scenes and like the there aren't many love rivals the one that is a love rival is a outstanding character itself and if we talk about the main character then I would just say one thing its just great seriously u won't find this level of wholesmeness anywhere else like shikimori is smart, intelligent, overprotective of her bf, loved by everyone and super cool.....and on the other hand Izumi he is not a loner he has good grades not dumb, knows how to express his feelings, doesn;t chicken out, he is unlucky but kind to everyone, etc.......now the parents they are just too wholesome they accept there realionship and like can even allow them to mary even if they are minors, are lovely, dad is a chad, mother is a milf with wholesomeness.....now the friends they are supporting of them all the way through....atlast I would only say that this has no flaws STUPID PEOPLE ARE LITERALLY HATING IT BECAUSE THE ART STYLE CHANGE NOW AND THEN {BUT IT NEVER GETS BAD} AND REASON LIKE TIME SKIPS HAPPEN TO OFTEN SO LIKE I AM GONNA SAY GET SOME LIFE.......This is far better then manga like higehiro, and prostitude stuff like metamorphisis.

PS: I will fuck u guys personally if u even tried to convert this masterpiece to shit like Ntr or any kind of doujin.
