The World’s Fastest Level Up (Light Novel)

It has been twenty years since dungeons began appearing all across the world, an incident that coincided with humanity receiving supernatural abilities–all of which transformed everyday life into a living RPG. Amane Rin is one of countless people plundering dungeons with the dream of getting rich quick with his unique skill. Rin is far from capable, though, and is quickly written off as a weak adventurer. However, one day, his skill evolves, taking a new form that allows Rin to break the dungeon system and level up at warp speed! Will this new power make him the strongest adventurer in the world?

Honestly...not great. Or outstanding in any way. It's actually kind of pretty unremarkable if you've read anything of a similar genre/plot before. The World's Fastest Level Up is basically a story about Rin, a guy who apparently is really weak in the beginning, somehow gets a cheat code to let him become OP really quickly compared to everyone else. Oh yeah, there's also dungeons (like magical caves that appear in random places like a boss fight in some RPG video game), "adventurers" who go into said game, and skills and HP and MP and levels and all that smandy dandy stuff. And Rin has the ability to become OP because he can go in and fight secretly as much as he wants to! (Yes, a "Span" prevents other adventurers from going into multiple dungeons every week.) Maybe because I've already read this type of story before (cough, ahem, Solo Leveling, cough) but reading this wasn't that interesting or fun because of it. It's basically a copy of Only I Level Up, except unlike Jin-Woo Sung being ruthless and getting strong for a purpose...Rin is getting strong just because that's his goal? Not to save the world? Or get fame? Maybe make some money to help save a sick family member or something? Nope, just pure strength. "So I can be like my savior!" Yeah, right. I don't mind that being his goal, but again at least make the story more interesting somehow. It just like it's there just because it's a part of his character trait and not much to do with the actual story itself. The only main difference would be the fact that the Japanese Harem trope is strong in this one - including his sister with trying to hook him up with those girls! - and it just seems pointless. Said harem characters aren't well dug out, since if you try to dig into anything of their lives or personalities, it kind of falls apart pretty quickly. They're bland and unremarkable as the plot of this story. (I feel like I say that a ton for a lot of light novels I read) As for the art, it's nothing to note at. It's decent, but that's all I can give for that. I do hate the fact that two of the girls in Rin's makeshift harem look almost exactly alike though, with different personalities. It can be a bit frustrating sometimes. Maybe if you've never dug into the Korean stories about dungeons and levels and new abilities (Solo Leveling, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, The S-Class That I Raised, etc.) try give it a go, I guess. But I would definitely recommend Only I Level Up over this, it has the same concept, but the author rounds out the characters a lot more and the story, plot, and worldbuilding is amazing. (Somehow this turned into a praising/review for Only I Level Up??) Anyways, I don't recommend this. Not that good. Just used it to pass time. Will probably forget this in a week and never look back.
