Two very weird/quirky/surreal manga revolving around an underwater brothel run by an all-female (and all-related) group of mermaid/siren/fish-people-things. Loose re-telling of the Ryujin (water dragon god) legend.

The Music of Marie and Ryuuguuden are two oddball seinen manga that blend fantasy with science fiction, have a penchant for drastic, narrative-altering twists, and muse over subjects such as whether it's admissable to sacrifice certain things to maintain society's peace and status quo.

Chimoguri Ringo to Kingyobachi Otoko

Chimoguri Ringo to Kingyobachi Otoko

Sometimes, the day after it rains, a tall man with a fishbowl instead of a head stalks through the streets assaulting people, drinking their blood, and then turning them into a goldfish. The townspeople are completely defenseless to his attacks, and must rely on blood divers, members of a vigilante group who jump into a victim’s body and stop the transformation, to keep this predator at bay. Ringo is one such blood diver who patrols the town with nothing but a plastic pistol and goldfish scoop, but she’s extremely inexperienced. Can the girl stop the fishy menace that’s terrorizing the town?!

If you enjoyed how completely bizarre either of these manga are, you may enjoy the other. Both have watery settings/characters, a similar sort of visual humor, and will appeal to lovers of the ridiculous.

Digimon Adventure (Light Novel)

Digimon Adventure (Light Novel)

These novels are an official publication, not fan-made. They were written by the show’s director, Hiroyuki Kakudou, and one of the screenwriters, Hiro Masaki. Therefore, information revealed in them can be considered canon. Notice the use of verb “can” here, meaning that it is not an absolute. You’ll discover as you read on that not everything is exactly as portrayed in the television series.
