Story: I am a complete sucker for revenge games. Or survival games. Or stuff where you have to kill your own friends and classmates or know what? Call it Battle Royale. This story, is mainly the first one with a dash of the third, minus the wanton brutal butchering. But I digress, I forgot the point I'm making. Probably a- oh, right, "Revenge Game". Nevermind.
As the title implies, revenge happens. In a "game" format. But it's mostly revenge, where a bullied rich boy who was bullied gets his revenge on his bullies. Hence, the title. There are no "Saw" or "Hostel" methods of murder, it's more humane than that, as far as killing fellow former human classmates gets. It's what you'd expect and it can be predictable but it does offer some nice twists. And it ends on a strong note, the kind of ending I like!
Art: It's nothing special but the main girl is pretty cute, and the bullied guy, or main villain, is... something. Not overly gory and the blood is not detailed, kinda stuff you'd see in a shoujo thing. Or whatever thing the villain would appear in. Don't know.
Characters: I didn't overly hate everybody or anybody but we don't learn much about them in the volume of page-time. I mean, you can only do so much in a single volume, right? You learn what they did to get there and some stuff about the main. Spiffy and stuff.
Overall: I'm pretty biased towards revenge stuff so I'd definitely enjoy it. Others, probably less. You, most likely less. But you can still find some enjoyment out of it, or outright hatred for the villain. Still worth checking out and you could read it in a jiffy.
This was not even worth the 8 chapters. I'd rather bathe in shit than read this again. The characters were annoying, ugly and stupid. The twist end was kinda cool, but that doesn't make up for everything wrong with the plot. 4/10 wouldn't read again
Trigger warnings: mentions of pedophilia
I'm glad this was only 8 chapters but I feel like if they'd had more they might have fleshed it out more. Long story short read if your curious but I wouldn't recommend it.
The story was good. The characters had depth. The ending was horrible. They could've ended it wayyyy differently imo
This feels dumb. I know that all death game stories are pretty dumb, but this one feels especially so. Five people are locked in a building together and told to find and kill the "mindmaster" among them or else one of them will be killed off each morning at 8 am. But there's very little investigating or interrogating going on among the participants. And the only in-fighting that occurs is in the mornings at 8 am--when somebody is declared to be the next victim, a few times that person then starts attacking the others. There's also no attempts to escape or undermine Saionji's ability to kill them with the guns hidden in the ceiling. In fact, the participants in this death game do effectively nothing during each of the days and seem to just wait around for the next 8 am execution to occur. So basically, the events going on in the present are all pretty dumb and the only thing giving this story any sort of intrigue is the flashbacks to events that occurred in the past, because it starts painting a picture of what happened with the bullying and how Matsui is related to all of this even though fe didn't participate in the bullying. And I gotta say that the final stabbing was dumb. It was meant to be poetic, but I didn't feel that it made sense with that character (because fe wasn't to blame for that).
The biggest flaw might be that Saionji isn't an interesting enough character for me to find the idea of fem creating a death game a believable premise. Fe doesn't exude insanity and feir situation isn't severe enough to warrant killing feir old bullies unless fe was completely insane. Fe feels like a caricature of a villain. Also, there are some plotholes in feir setting. If fe has enough resources to build a high-tech building for a death game, how can you say that fe lost everything? And why would fe bring the person fe has a crush on into the death game and risk fem being killed?
