This manga is really good.

You just got out of some of that gold/deep anime like Stain Gate 0, Charlotte, Promised Neverland or whatever, and you just want to relax reading a nice action manga.

However you already read all the good stuff and that increasing pile of isekais does not appeal your fine senses anymore.

That my friend when stumble across Shuumatsu no Walkure ( Record of Ragnarok )

As says in the description of the manga, gods and humans battle in 1v1 death matches to decide the fate of the world.

The thing is, it’s  f***** awesome.

Story goes as straight as it looks, it doesn't go unnecessarily complicated and at the same time, does not get boring or redundant. All the battles get you in the edge of your seat, each battle goes for 5 to 7 chapters, that plus 35 chapters ( what was out when I wrote this ) equals me staying awake until 4:00 hyped as sh*t, finishing the whole thing at once.

Art is 10/10, some of that good, well drawn action and really good fights. As observation, I usually prefere watching action based anime's instead of reading the manga because fights some times gets harder to understand in manga and flow better in general when animated ( and I still give this 10/10 )

characters for me are 11/10, but befor reading you need to have one thing in mind.

Forget everything you know about this gods and historical figures. This manga makes its own representation, and sometimes, new background for the characters. So, if in Jesus Christ’s flashback he is all ripped, breaks out from his cross and beats The living sh*t out Pilatus for every sin he committed (btw this is a exaggerated example and it's not in the manga) is too much of a stretch for you then you maybe have a problem.

With that out of the way, characters are grate, in the battle you get to know more about their personality and what they stand for. One really nice detail is the irony and paradox that the battles show in regards how different and how similar the humans are from the gods.

Over all I think is a great manga, if you like that extremely over the top action with hight stakes or just want to have a good time reading something different from the usual you gonna have a good time.

One more thing, if you are past chapter 4 or 5 and still have doubts feel free to go to the end of chapter 7/beginning of chapter 8, ( when the second battle begins). That my friend, is when I knew that I wouldn’t be sleeping tonight.

Sorry for the grammar by the way.

It's a good read, but it takes a hell lot of time to progress

In some matches it just seems like the creators are trying to stretch the story for a long run It's really bothersome also the thing about flashback/backtory of  the characters are mostly false and exaggerating *spoiler*(They literally showed jack the ripper a murderer as some of kind saint).

Apart from this minor details the manga is actually good( if you ignore to use your brain) and just focus on fighting sequence.

Just give it a try and decide on your own....

I've been reading it now since I am obsess with it. The art is exceptionally outstanding with the expressions and the proportions. The art knows how to exagerate and to not so I like it since its not that overwhelming in terms of facial expressions. For the characters, I score it as 9/10(I felt the need to explain this) because of some characters that are overwhelming with their designs, especially those I know in history and think "this ain't how they look like" but I gave it a high score since the designs fit the theme rather than their original looks and it just makes sense. Overall, I recommend this to people who loves action.

Everything is fine, but the biggest issue is how the flashbacks ruin it. Like you'll get like 5 panels of the fight, and then it will switch to something else. It's fine if you want to reveal the backstory, but godamn at least have good timing.

The matches so far (without giving away the winners):

  1. Thor vs. Lu Bu
  2. Zeus vs. Adam
  3. Poseidon vs. Sasaki Kojiro
  4. Heracles vs. Jack the Ripper
  5. Shiva vs. Raiden Tameemon

As should be clear, the appeal of this manga is that it mixes together mythology and folklore from a variety of cultural sources--having these pseudo-historical figures battle to the death. They add to and alter the traditional legends, to give it their own flavor. It's a really cool premise and I like the structured set-up of the fights--having a limit of at most thirteen fights creates tension along the way as well as a built-in perfect way to end it. But while they've got the hype down, they don't necessarily got the follow-through. What I mean by that is that the story does a good job of creating excitement before the matches, building up tension during the matches (through spectator commentary and backstories), and making the outcome of the matches uncertain up until the very last moments, but the matches themselves are honestly somewhat meh. Some of the fights barely seem choreographed, and more often than not it feels like they're just an exchange of increasingly final final moves. With people just smashing together and creating shockwaves and stuff. It's not visually stunning, nor do I get immersed into the action. Part of the reason it's difficult to get immersed could be that spectators play a large role (for the hype) which means that the focus is constantly shifting away from the actual engagements. Are the fights horrible? No, they're adequately decent. But for a manga that's solely built around a series of fight scenes, I expect the fight scenes to be spectacular. I do get invested and excited though, but that has less to do with the action and more to do with the atmosphere.

I don't really appreciate all the over-the-top facial contortions. I don't really care about the Valkyrie sisters or how their names connect to their weapon abilities or whatever. And I find the whole "divine weapon" aspect of the story to be unnecessary (that aspect could've easily been written out of the story without losing what makes the manga appealing). If chapter 33 is a sign of where the story is headed, I'm not sure how I feel about that.
