Random Chat - Reviews

Some may disagree, but I believe that this manhwa deserves more recognition than it gets. It's a manhwa revolving around a teenage boy, Joonwoo. Joonwoo is alone, has no friends and constantly gets bullied by someone who he considered his friend in the past. To make up for his loneliness, he find his resolve in an application called Random Chat, the app is as the name describes, 'a random chat' with a stranger.

Joonwoo matches with a young girl the same age as himself on the application, to his surprise, it turns out the be his classmate. Due to his awkward and shy nature, he cannot bring himself to tell her. Joonwoo talks to this girl through Random Chat, slowly building a strong bond with her whilst still keeping his anonymity. The girl tells Joonwoo everything about her feelings, how she wants to get with the class president, Joonwoo helps her behind the scenes despite falling for her himself.

This is story based on the hardships some may have faced during their schoolyears, bullying, love, toxic relationships, etc.. I suggest you give this a try at the very least. I think it does a good job at showing emotions and mental state through their characters.

I am pretty sad to see people dropping this manhwa solely based on the initial impression (first few chapters) it gave. Yes, there may be a lot of fillers, yes the MC may be the weak type who simps, but that will change drastically as the plot progression evolves. The very well written character development brings forth a sense of relatability and awe for me as I am one with a number of insecurities. This manhwa inspires and hypes me to change, to not run away from my problems, to face them head forth... just not in a reckless way as it was depicted to have a lasting psychological effect. Trust me, shit can go from 10 to a hundred quickly reading this as the characters and situations are almost never what they seem... aside from Hamin, lol. Like the girl he initially simped for... yeah she is very much broken... like, none of the characters is mentally stable... but that is the process of reaching adulthood. Welp, I made this acc here solely to balance out the negative reviews on my favorite manhwa... so yep. Btw, the school genre will switch to psychological were you to continue reading, so.... enjoy :)

This is honestly a really interesting and great manwha.

The story line is so unique and the main character isnt perfect, he is human.  Even the "bad guys" of this story all have backstories that made them this way.  I found myself binge reading this many times.  The characters are very unique in my point of view.  This story is a good combination of the harshness real world.

The art is so beautiful!  I took so many screenshots of the characters.  You can clearly see the author has put so much effort into this. I want to draw like this, lol. The art keeps improving through the new chapters.

The characters are so interesting.  My favourite character is Taeyang Lee, he is the one that bullies the MC.  I can honestly say i originally hated him.  But after i learnt his past, which doesnt excuse him for his actions against the MC btw, i realised how complicated his character was.  I cant really explain why i like him but oh well.  Another thing i like about this story is that all of these characters have motives (as far as i remember), i wont say all of their motives can justify their actions but this gives as a peek of why they did what they did.  

I would definately reccommend it to anyone out there looking for a Manwha to read.

Too many skipped info that leaves you hanging.   Too much fillers....     And i dont know if the characters are all retard or just translator error...   'keeps saying kill, kill, kill. In a dog cat fight...    Too many profanities...

What pisses me the most is the fillers are more than the main story.

This should have been one of my fav. If not for the fucking stupidity....   Every character thinks worst than dog... Convo was full of crap....

I thought there would be a comeback but its really a disappointment...   This is the worst manhwa I've read so far... The story was warped at middle of story line... Really the worst.. 

Starts of like a Romance, coming-of-age type of story, sprinkled with darker themes like bullying, gangsters and ostracization.

Our MC is Joonwoo who hates himself and his only pastime is video games and Random Chat - an app where you meet random persons, where he can be anonymous with blank slates - no one will know his past history or his school life - where he gets picked on...

Be warned though, it WILL get frustrating, as the MC is changing quite slowly (too slowly???), while most of the people around him are all either inhumanly strong / smart as if they are superheroes (almost like mind-reading or inciting the whole school with rumors in a blink of an eye) or incredible (dys)functional people with anti-social personality delinquents with abusing parents, cold-blooded manipulative sociopaths, victimization + dependancy disorder and of course we must also have a borderline personality disorder character.

After 135 chapters, i have to say, if you manage to survive the first chapters, and gets invested in the characters, you will get frustrated later on because the "main story" doesn't progress as all the secondary antagonists just keeps on pooling up and the MC just keeps on making enemies without an inch of an afterthought of the consequences or how to solve them more smartly(?)

Nothing neat about the MC, but you still gets invested and hopes for the better, for him and his friends...

Enough rambling for me, i guess i would say Lookism is a "better version" and if you like dark themed school focused series with fighting, romance and psychological abusive - then it's worth a shot!
