…for the eyes, which looks pretty cute. Otome no Itari also uses the same technique of dot-eyes for far away shots, but then it goes full shoujo bonanza for the close-up shots. Well, maybe not full shoujo bonanza--I’ve definitely seen more intense glistening and designwork--but it does do the marbling type effect, where it has the bottom half of the irises be a gradient with small effects and then has a couple highlights in the top portion of the eye. Kashiwagi, the girl, is drawn in such a way that fe almost always looks wide-eyed, like fe’s awkwardly staring. I think it’s largely because of how much sclera we’re able to see between feir iris and upper eyelid. This also occurs with some other characters at times, but it’s almost constant with Kashiwagi. Kashiwagi’s hair looks really nice. The mid-length and the way not all the tufts curl together. Kiryuu’s hair likewise has that just-slightly ruffled look to it and is pretty nice. Though I don’t particularly care for how Kiryuu’s hair looks when about half of it is whitened from reflections, and I’m not sure how I feel about the panels where a screentone is used (to create a softer feel) instead of it being blacked out. All the characters have loosened ties and an undone top button on their shirts, which helps reflect the casually uniformed look the author is going for. As for the plotline, it’s built around Kashiwagi admiring Kiryuu’s sense of self-confidence, especially when compared to how Kashiwagi is constantly scared of disappointing others. Fe realizes feir feelings for Kiryuu and then gets anxious at the very thought of being around fem. When I read Kashiwagi’s worries about confessing and Kiryuu potentially thinking that fe’s creepy or troublesome, I thought to myself, "Oh...
