Happy Sugar Life

Happy Sugar Life

Satou Matsuzaka doesn't seem to care about much, moving through boys and casting them aside like used candy wrappers. All that changes, though, when she meets Shio. The little girl changes everything for Matsuzaka. Is this love...? If it is, then it's love through a very warped prism as the high schooler demonstrates there's no atrocity beyond her when it comes to protecting the object of her deranged affection.

They both focus on a kidnapping and “happiness” along with darker themes. Both of them also have an age gap between the two main characters

YoshikaHayashi YoshikaHayashi says...

Firstly, they both share the fact that they are amazing mangas that discuss the meanings of happiness and love. Both Satou (the main character in happy sugar life) and the masked guy in (one room of happiness’), are involved in a ‘relationship’ with a much younger girl, both girls also live in the captors home. If you like the one of these mangas, you’ll definitely love the other.

One Room of Happiness if the characters were fucked people and remain fucked people till the end.

Both series have:

dangerous/mysterious/unstable male and female leads

a sort of death pact between the two main characters

a mysterious backstory, yet to be unlocked

main man has their face covered (though for different reasons)

main girls are both often expressionless

main girls were both abused

main girls both have a sort of older male predator after them at multiple points in the series

also contains stalkers!

lots of key elements are the same, though i will warn anyone going from One Room of Happiness into Angels of Death, AoD is much bloodier and more violent, while ORoH contains much more of an abuse factor, only leaving bruises and trauma

Meffmef Meffmef says...

Mysterious unhinged young girl and the older man she has a death pact with. Themes of child abuse and trauma. Angel of Death takes place in a rather fantastical setting with a focus on horror, while Sachiiro takes place in real life with a lot of self-introspection.

What the girl rented was a happy and friendly time with her fake brother. The death of her parents... The complete change of her brother who was kind... The girl who is now alone and wounded, longing for the kindness she once saw in her brother... Says: I'm going to rent a brother!... With money. Even renting, I want to have a "family".

Both are manga about little girls with traumatic pasts/presents and the men who help give them the family/friends they no longer/never had. Both are very innocent and dark at the same time and have a lot of heartwarming moments despite everything. They also both have nice are and interesting/unique characters and are told from the young girl's perspective. Both are good and interesting reads as well.

I love both One Room of Happiness, and Azure and Claude so much! Bothmanga relate to death, and many complex emotions.

The Onii-San in One Room of Happiness, and Claude, both are afraid to die. While Azure and Sachi both want to die in there own twisted ways.

Both mangas apeal to me, the story lines are amazing, the art is azure and claude is a little, hmm, milky but a tad different. It's not for better or worse, it's just a little different, a little plain, but it's not bad. The art in one room of happiness has no problems with me, not amazingly amazing, but there is nothing wrong, and that's an a-okay for me, since i'm a harsh grader. Also Mastubase Hijjiri in the manga is soo cute! Character appeal upgrade in the plot for sure~!

All in all, the characters develop in an appealing way, the stories are fascinating, and i earnestly adore each one! It's a must read if you want a nice manga to enjoy while snuggling in a blanket, with excitement in the air! WARNING- it does talk about death, i mean, of course it does, but if you didn't know already, and you aren't fond of those topics, it's just a warning this genre might not be suited for you.

Not as dark, but also about a school girl running away from home to stay with an older man due to her home situation. Albeit the man is her childhood friend so the stakes aren't as high. Explores similar themes of family, making connections, and having a place in the world to belong. Basically the wholesome fluffy counterpart to Sachiiro's bleak bittersweetness.

Young girl finds refuge from her complicated home life through her cohabitation with a mysterious older guy (No romance).

Tho the little happiness they’ve carved out for themselves is so genuinely tender, you never forget the inherently fragile circumstances that have put them in their arrangement in the first place, and how gravely it could equally come apart.

Runaway school girl and the the dubious living arrangement she's made with a slightly distressed adult man. Tho they find in each other a sense of belonging and security they've craved their whole life, you can never forget how inherently fragile their arrangement is by the fact that it's technically illegal, so there's a constant tension over the notion that they can lose all that they have at any point.
