Upon encountering one another during the Krieg Pirates' siege on the Baratie, Zoro Rorona entices Dracule Mihawk for a duel for the title of the world strongest swordsman.
This is a redrawing of chapters 51 and 52 from One Piece--one of many momentous moments in that series. The dialogue and sequencing is the same. There are some pretty notable differences in the panel layouts, with some aspects being given less focus and others being highlighted more. The eyes, knuckles, and abs are more pronounced in the Boichi way. But fe seemed to simplify feir technique when drawing Luffy and Usopp to try to match Oda's style from that time period. The action lines are more intense and it feels like there's a lot more detail put into each panel, such as with woodgrain and textured waves being drawn out. It's okay (but obviously doesn't function on its own). But more than anything, it sparks my interest in seeing this type of tribute being picked up by other famous manga artists. Like, it just makes me imagine a world where every chapter of One Piece has an alternate art version, compiled together in a mega-large alternate collection.
