Not So Shoujo Love Story - Reviews

Full disclosure, this webtoon is freaking HILARIOUS. It had me in stitches multiple times. Its the same sort of absurdist humor as Saiki K, so if you found that funny you should like this. Hansum is just… I don’t know how to describe him but he is one of the best characters I’ve ever seen purely because he’s just so unexpected. 

As for the two leads, they’ve got hella chemistry and despite every character leaning into really strong characterization for comedy, there is actually depth to both of the leads.

First of all, go read it, I will not make justice to it in this review, I'm sure. If you want a romance to be invested in: this is it. If you don't want a romance, just light craked comedy: this is also it. If you just want untraditional character designs: this can be it. If you want a slice of life thing: this can be it. Even if you want LGBTQ+ representation and the difficulties we go through in school being taken seriously: this is it too! How the author does all of that without getting too heavy nor disrespecting queer experiences, idk, but it's done and amazingly.

Think about every shoujo you've read before. Then forget it, this isn't this. Just like the name says, this is the most non-shoujo shoujo you will ever read. The nonsensical humor is the biggest selling point, the rules of this world are never broken because there are no rules. And that's amazing, the author can then make the whole universe of the story a joke itself. The own character designs apply to this and I love it. The second biggest point is, I dare say, one of the best couples I've ever seen in gl and romance in general.

Attention: They're not the classical dark-haired-tall-skinny-horny-protective-has-a-lot-of-brothers-totally-not-an-anime-guy-girl x sad-backstory-light-haired-big-eyes-short-modest-vain-good-at-cooking-girl. You know exactly what I'm talking about. It's quite refreshing!

I really love how the relationship between all characters is developed, how little seriousness you will find here. And if you've spent any time on anime/manga you will find thousands of references at background that show the dedication the author had to this canvas.

This webtoon is hilarious, it has a good plot and a cute romance. I would recommend read this. ITS AMAZING.
