[I'm typng down everything below, relying solely on my memory]

Nisekoi is a romcom, and a successful one at that. There's Raku Ichijou, our main male protagonist, who just happens to be a girl magnet. Anyhow, that's beside the point.

Getting to the actual review now.

The story is interesting. I mean, the author does a good job in terms of making the childhood friend a mystery, and keeps us wondering. This is probably the only original part of it all. The rest of the plot are filled with cliches. Generally speaking, if you wish to read a shoujo manga will all of the usual stuff [ ie. girl being afraid of the dark despite acting tough ; girl hate boy at first sight and vice versa ; forced into a relationship despite not liking one another ; etc]  this is the manga for you. It's pretty boring, to be honest. I mean, the parts that are meant to be funny makes me laugh, but this manga makes it so easy for me to toss it aside, and approach another.

The art is good. The miens the characters wear are beautiful. Though there are times when the art is questionable, but it's adorable in the end. I like the art. Period.

The side characters are amazing. The main ones, are crap. They're dense, hesitant, secretive, and honestly, the plot would go nowhere had the side characters been absent since the beginning. The main characters, Raku Ichijo, Chitoge Kirisaki, and Onodera Kasaki. They're cute to a certain degree, but are honesty boring. Their reactions could be easily predicted, and that honesty ruins the story. They each have their own individual quirks, and share some qualities, such as the inability to do anything. Maybe I'm exaggerating on that one. But seriously. They can make no contributions to the main plot, had the side characters such as Ruri or Shu were not there.

But that aside, it's still an okay manga. The love story still sucks though.

Longest manga everrrrrrrrrr (don't even get me started with Skip Beat) anyways, it felt like forever whenever I waited for new chapters. The story kept dragging and more girls kept coming, I was about to die fr. But anyways, I liked how the story turned out, the ending came and I was happy. All the characters had their resolve and no holes were left open. It was a happy ending for me :3

Nisekoi is a solidly written story that is only brought down by its overuse of tropes. The premise of a false love between two high schoolers, while not revolutionary, is almost guaranteed to give you a lot of opportunity for writing a great story. The story unfolds in a very predictable but not quite distasteful fashion. Each character has a well written backstory, a semi compelling character arc, and only suffers due to the tropes the author feels he is needed to pull. And while there was a lot of great and interesting characters in the story, it was clear that the three main characters were by far the most shallow and bland characters of the manga. The author also felt the need to have far too many characters, which while all high quality, felt excessive and had no real effect in the plot or manga other than for some uneeded filler. Overall, there was a lot of filler, tropes, and dragged situations in the story which at points made me lose interest. The climax of the story was satisfying, depending on the preferred girl of the reader, and was able to leave a big impression through the art in the last few chapters. Nisekoi is a solid read and is far better than the anime.

I will be honest, I only read from where the second season of the anime ended (chapter 107 on). I have watched many anime that left me wanting to know more and see an ending to the plot, but nothing like Nisekoi has gotten me to binge read the manga to see how it ends. I had a strong urge to know who does Raku choose if he chooses any of the girls that fancy him. Why may that urge be? Read below to see why.

Story

The plot was really well thought out. Raku made a promise with a girl 10 years ago and the locket he holds around his neck is the symbol of the very promise he cherishes. As the story advances, it leaves lots of hints as to who the girl could be. It leaves you guessing almost right to the end and trying to rule out who it could be and who it can't be (I was team Chitoge throughout reading the manga). Overall, the story was excellent however, the pace of the plot could have been sped up.

Art

I have not read a lot of manga, so judging the artwork was a challenge. I think the artwork was well done. It did a good job portraying exactly what it needed to. The characters were well-drawn and the emotions they displayed were superbly drawn and complemented the scene well. I do not have any complaints about the artwork.

Characters

Overall, the characters had their own personalities. Some characters I did not like (will focus on main characters only), but their personalities and why I did not like them made sense as to why they are the way they are by the end of the story.

Raku: He is an excellent guy! A great personality and a big heart that makes someone look up to a character. He could be more aware of the girls around him and not be so dense, but that is how the protagonist is in a harem.

Chitoge: She is fiesty but sweet. We first see her as the angry gorilla girl, but as the story unfolds, we start to see her more feminine side.

Kosaki: A stunning personality that can warm anyone's heart. She is always thoughtful and considerate, though it is also her downfall as well.

Marika: She is very good at understanding people and what is happening around her. I found her annoying because her antics were always the same and never really varied. However, the way she acts makes sense later in the story. In the end, I came to not dislike her character as I first did.

Shuu: You can't help but just laugh at him, especially when he has fun around Ruri. He always comes across as a goofball, but he is an amazing character and has a lot better of a personality than is normally portrayed by him.

Ruri: Very intelligent and can read the situation well. No complaints about her.

The other characters had a good role to play and they played them well. I did not have issues with them and have no complaints.

Enjoyment

I thoroughly enjoyed this manga and anime (the anime was the reason why I had to read the manga to know the ending without just searching it up). The harem was very fun to watch as they get into their antics of trying to win Raku's heart. I laughed. A lot. Again, my only wish was for the plot to move a bit faster.

Overall: 9.5/10

The manga itself was amazing and is one of my favorites by far. I loved the plot, art, characters, and enjoyed reading every moment of it. The ending was exactly what I was wanting when I started reading the manga. It was fun to see the heated moments Raku unintentionally got put in. Perhaps a sequel could be in order (you must read to the end to see what I mean and ponder how well that could work). My main criticism (does not detract from the rating) is the plot could have moved a bit faster.
