Awaking to absolute chaos and carnage while on a school trip, Yogiri Takatou discovers that everyone in his class has been transported to another world! He had somehow managed to sleep through the entire ordeal himself, missing out on the Gift — powers bestowed upon the others by a mysterious Sage who appeared to transport them. Even worse, he and another classmate were ruthlessly abandoned by their friends, left as bait to distract a nearby dragon. Although not terribly bothered by the thought of dying, he reluctantly decides to protect his lone companion. My Instant Death Ability Is So Overpowered, No One in This Other World Stands a Chance Against Me! Volume 1
This review was written after reading volume 12This series is part of the Fujitaka-verse, so get ready for a protagonist so overpowered it borders on the nonsensical. The basic idea, as acknowledged by the author, is that it’s boring to read pages and pages of fighting when you know all too well the Good Guys™ are gonna win, so let’s cut the chase and go straight to the victory.I’m not too fond of overpowered heroes, so I didn’t really know what to expect… and it was an absolute blast, I just can’t get enough of it. This series is absolutely hilarious. Each chapter’s title is something one of the characters says at some point, so here are a few example so you get a taste of just what level of absurd humor the books have in store for you. I Have a Bit of Experience with Torture It’s Easy Enough in Games, but Identifying Plants Is Actually Pretty Hard Okay, We Understand Your Situation. You Can Keep Fighting Now If You Want It All Feels as If We Are Being Looked Down Upon Just for Being Monsters The plot’s outline is that Yogiri Takatou, capable of killing everything and anything just by wishing it, gets isekaied with his whole class. He and his classmate Tomochika Dannoura are deemed unfit to be hero candidates and abandoned by the others, so they go on a trip to find a way back to their original world, all the while rampaging everything that gets in their way.Because, yeah, instant death power seems too hard to believe, so a ton of characters need heavy convincing to understand they should just leave the two alone. Yogiri is not actually human, and has no innate moral compass: he was taught not to kill needlessly, but what does needlessly even mean? Also he’s very protective of Tomochika. Why? According to him, because he likes her boobs. Both characters have really good chemistry, Tomochika being there to be the voice of common sense, and to manage problems who don’t need somebody ending dead. She’s the sister of Chiraru Dannoura from Neechan wa Chuunibyou, so she’s got some mad martial arts skill, in the very distinctive Dannoura style, which consists of being sneaky and unpredictable to vanquish your enemy through surprise attacks. Finally, don’t get fooled by the cover of the first volume, the illustration are actually pretty good.
