Finished the webtoon. And up until chapter 40 it was fine. The way Shirley (FL) was written made her relatable. I was invested in her story and her as a character. I liked her and was rooting for her, not just the romance she was in.  Unfortunately,  the ending happened and I lost all interest in her almost instantly.  The pacing was on the slower side but I figured there were plenty of chapters left. Wrong. The author tried to wrap up the loose ends, the ones they hadn't brushed aside with "oh nothing we could do", in 5 chapters with little success. The wrap up of the husband's story had so many tonal shifts, including the blasé use of trafficking which happened in a single chapter (see above brushed aside excuse).   Then we get to the FL and her relationships... Whoo boy. So, any and all potential character growth went *poof*. If you compare her in the last couple chapters to who she was in chapter 1 there is no difference. None. I thought we were looking at a "learn to not be afraid of relationships even if your last one sucked" kind of thing. Especially since I didn't realize it was ending so quickly. Or something about being independent while still being in a relationship. But nope. No character growth for the FL. And mentioning her relationships. The romance portion was played up really hard and then the ending was...interesting. The author couldn't make a decision and tried to do both, again unsuccessfully.  Her relationship with Linda, the matronly figure, had its loose ends "wrapped up" in a super convoluted "this isn't how that actually works but it's happening this way so there is a reason to repair the relationship".  TLDR; The story started off great. But the last 5 chapters had the story curve around so far that the characters ended back up at the beginning in a near perfect circle. A super disappointing ending.

The premise is great and I love that it is so, so clear that the shitty husband is NOT the love interest. I also like that the FL doesn't fall for the ML's charms at first, but slowly warms up to him. The relationships depicted have some variety and the FL gain both female friends and male friends (who are not in love with her). I got to see instances of women supporting women and not antagonizing each other in cheap plots. The FL's struggle with herself in doing what she thinks is best for herself and her son are relatable. In those aspects, I don't regret reading what I had so far. But, the world is so much sexism going on that it's difficult to read. And my problem wasn't that this issue was demonstrated and enforced (with the FL pushing back along with others). It was the writing of the story as a whole. I couldn't suspend my disbelief beause the systematic sexism was just so painfully obvious. It would have been wonderful, in my humble opinion, if it was more subtle like in realistic day to day. It feels like some characters exist just to remind me that hey, women aren't treated as equals. The characters just feel so flat in they aspect. Especially with the male characters. They're either on the extreme end of sexist or they're on FL's side and seem to not hold those values. Granted though, there is at least one (and possibly another) who is pretty a realisitc traditionally narrow-minded character.

there should be a comedy tag on this. Recommend! The FL is so funny the story doesn't have the conventional mundane characters like in everyother manga i've read. :3
