Although Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is about high-school students and Wotakoi is a slice of life about adults, the otaku culture is present in both which makes the adults seem like teenagers all over again but allows for more risqué jokes.

There is also some extent of role reversal of usual male and female characters in both manga that is a big part of the plot's humor.

These unique characters traits coupled with the fact that some of them are KY (totaly oblivious of certain athmospheres) is a point that makes both manga endearing in my opinion.

The way both plots evolve can get you attached quickly even to the minor characters making them all seem equally contributing to the story, in my eyes.

Similar personalities in protagonists, Chiyo is to Wotakoi's Narumi as Nifuji is to Nozaki. Some side characters have similar tropes as well, Kashima is what an extroverted Sakuragi would be like.

The main couple share the same personalities and looks, plus one of them is a manga/dojin author. There are many otaku culture references being thrown all the time.

Has good insight on fujoshi culture and the female otaku experience. Very refreshing in an industry that is very male-centric.

Afo Guard

Afo Guard

Aizawa Katori goes to a school with an unusual rule. The nearby, separate school building is full of elite male students, and the school wants to prevent any of the female students from getting involved with them. For this reason, all the girl students are required to wear masks! Katori wears a horse-head mask, but she hasn't given up on getting through to her long-ago childhood friend and crush, Shinra. Shinra also has a crush on Katori from when they were children, but he does not recognize her as the strange horse-headed girl who speaks to him!

Both are 4- koma gag mangas with jokes being made due to the characters' absurd situations, trying to create a manga and being forced to wear a mask.

Both are weird af school rom coms with some seriously over the top characters and quality humour.

Silly 4-koma school rom-com. Cute characters, super lighthearted "gag" manga. The female leads kinda remind me of each other, they're both very optimistic and cheery with a hint of "there's a screw loose"

Bakuman.

Bakuman.

Moritaka Mashiro feels as if life is passing him by; with no dreams or motivation, he simply trudges through his day-to-day life. One day, after leaving his notebook behind, he returns to school only to find the smartest guy in class, Takagi, waiting for him. Takagi is happy to return the book, but only on the condition that Mashiro agrees to become a mangaka with him. Though Mashiro initially declines, he soon decides to reconsider when he discovers that the girl he likes, Azuki, dreams of becoming a voice actress. But after promising that she can have the lead role if their manga is ever adapted into an anime, he inadvertently suggests that they get married once they are both successful! Shockingly, she agrees to the proposal and Mashiro and Takagi embark on their quest to become manga artists. With Takagi writing and Mashiro drawing, does the pair have what it takes to succeed and get their manga serialized?

Both manga are about a mangaka in his teenage years.

I feel gekkan shoujo is more os a parody of a shojo love story, so the gags fill in more than the romance aspect.

In Bakuman the story is presented in more of a shonen form where friendship, harwork and willpower are the main lessons of the story and romance also takes a back seat.

So all and all, both are good comedies that let you peek into the world of manga creation

Both mangas are filled with comedy and based on romance with great characters. Both include the the main characters getting to know each other better outside of school and hiding their true personalities from other students.

blue1r1s blue1r1s says...

The athmosfere feels more romantic in Horimiya than the more humorous Genkkan Shoujo but the sort of male-female role reveversal in both manga make it for a very good bit of fun!

Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge

Sighing, leaning on his elbows, sleepy eyes. Tanaka-kun is a boy that basically doesn't try but isn't disliked. This is a laid-back youth comedy about Tanaka-kun and the quiet Oota who can't leave him alone.

Both are a comedic slice of life manga (with anime adaptations) with a lovable ensemble of characters. With hints of romance (a stronger theme in Nozaki-kun), everyday mishaps and an array of glorious side-characters, both series are able to be picked up anywhere and thoroughly enjoyed.

Both are 4 Koma mangas with lots of comedy and bits of romance. Also both have an oblivious love interest and the humour used in both is kind of similar with both poking fun at the usual shoujo manga tropes (GSNK does this more though).

Both are very good series, they're both very lighthearted with very little plot. Neither one has much romance, but when romance is shown in either one it's done extremely well.

In Way of the Househusband, a lot of what keeps readers coming back (other than it's a great series) is to find out the backstory between Tatsu and Miku, and how their romance developed (etc.). We already know that the two are together, so most of their devlopment comes from just seeing the two together and interacting (they're very cute).

In Monthly Girls', a lot of what keeps readers coming back (again, other than it's a great series) is to find out if there's been any development between Sakura and Nozaki (and any of the other main relationships). Because it's not a lot of visible devlopment, seeing small things between Nozaki and Sakura is so gratifying just because it's not very often that it happens.

They are both spoofs of romance genres! Both of them lovingly poke fun at the conventions of their respective genres (shoujo and BL) and they have a large cast of fun and interesting characters that really grab your attention!

If you like one for its general humor, there's a very fair chance you'll like the other. A lot of the tropes in one genre is present in the other, so even if you don't know much about one of the genres, you'll probably still be able to get the joke without too much explanation!
