Mimizuku to Yoru no Ou (Light Novel)

Mimizuku is a child who has never known happiness. Having escaped the thieves who enslaved her, she still has chains shackled to her wrists and ankles and her forehead still bears the numbers branded into her flesh: 332. She makes her way to the notorious Forest of Night, hoping to convince one of the monsters there to eat her and put an end to her misery. Instead, she meets the beautiful King of the Night, who bears a sorrowful past of his own. Unable to convince him to eat her, Mimizuku slowly begins to experience a life she has never known, one where she is able to make her own choices. But when her newfound happiness is disrupted by humans intent on "rescuing" her, Mimizuku must decide which world she truly belongs in.
