Madoka's Secret

Madoka Yamada loves to play with dolls and looks so cute in custom made dresses. But Madoka is a boy. Afraid that he will be made fun of again for being "girly," Madoka decides to hide that part of himself when he moves to his new town and school. He fits right in, and all his classmates like him, except for one, Itsuki Tanonaka, whose seat is right next to his. Madoka thinks that Itsuki is cool and "manly" and says so, only to be met with his classmates' snickers. What's the big deal?! Will Madoka be able to keep his secret for long?

As I read it for the third time yesterday, I finally decided to write my review. Madoka's Secret is a short and sweet story about two kids who go against gender norms as they wear what they want to wear and do what they want to do. It's a truly heartwarming story with a lovely message of having the courage to be yourself and doing what you love despite the odd looks others may give you. It also shows school bullying but quickly resolves the problems by having the kids accept them. Is it a seemingly unrealistic solution? Yes, but it is so uplifting and I absolutely love this story. I'll definitely read it again.  The main characters are a tomboy girl Itsuki and a sweet plushie-loving boy Madoka. Madoka's sister, who is a university student (I think?), makes clothes and loves seeing her brother put them on and he enjoys it too, however many of the clothes she makes are girly and after changing schools Madoka decides to hide this in order to avoid getting bullied for it. The secret however gets out as his classmate and neighbour Itsuki recognizes him while he's wearing a dress. I'm not going to describe the whole story but they decide to keep it secret and, of course, the secret gets out, of course it does. There's also a gender-reverse school play. The lineart is thin but pretty, I loved the expressions and the flowers. It suits the story and a lot of details were put into clothing. Overall, it's one of my favourites. I highly recommend it, especially to my dear trans and/or crossdressing pals out there. It's sweet and uplifting. Go Madoka! I wish we got an epilogue set in the future and it could have been a bit longer but it is great as it is. Not flawless, but it makes me feel so at peace, I simply can't get enough of it~~
