Both the novels have a great plot and NO PLOT HOLES! Additionally, both novels offer mysteries with themes of duality weaved elegantly and delve into the very competitive space of putting the characters into irreversible situations. And most of all, the characters aren't stupid or mentally retards where they can't even think about a situation instead could be considered by the reader's standards not only by the writer who has to mention again and again that MC is smart.

Both MCs are very mysterious in their own ways.

Both MCs have godlike powers.

Secondary Characters play a big role in both novels.

No Spoilers Recommendation! Everything is a very rudimentary intro and comparison without giving away plot.

If you like either of these novels, then the other one is an almost guaranteed enjoyable read (You can also read my reviews on both for a more in-depth look on a sepcific novel).

The vibes of both stories are exactly the same, with the ever-present looming presence of incomprehensible horrors casting a shadow over the entire story. Both have clear Lovecraftian cosmic horror elements, along with SCP elements of numbered anomalies, or artifacts that need to be sealed by official orginizations.

Mysteries are also strongly present throughout both, giving the reader the same spine-tingling dread of slowly unveiling the truth behind the mind-numbing horrors that were hidden in plain sight. Madness and the corruption and loss of control from knowing too much is also present in both worlds. The pacing of unveiling mysteries slightly differ, but in the end both novels are the slow-paced type of plot that leaves room for hundreds of enjoyable chapters to read.

However, even with all of the similarities, they are completely seperate from each other and choose different paths of the same genre, most notably in the unique and fleshed-out world-building of both worlds.

Lord of the Mysteries chooses the route of focusing more on the cosmic horror of the cosmos and underground, with more emphasis on the cosmos. Klein, the protagonist, started out with no power in a poor family, building up his power from nothing, which subsequently affects his actions where his power is built off of facades and different identities where he can never truly reveal himself to anybody. It is a dangerous world where he is alone, in constant danger of death, and can only try to reach a level where he can protect the people he cares for.

In contrast, Deep Sea Embers has a different world that is built on a similar premise of cosmic horror, but focusing more on a world less familiar to us readers on Earth--a foreign world where 90% of the world is ocean, along with other pieces of world building that add to the uneasy fear permeating the world. Compared to the cosmos in Lord of the Mysteries, the Ocean is the main focus of the horrors and madness of the world. However, Duncan, the protagonist, had a very different starting point compared to Klein where he already wields a vast amount of power, and can already protect the people he cares for. Duncan also has multiple identities, except the main difference is that he has people he can rely on, people he can share these identities with and doesn't really have to act around. It is also a dangerous world, but he isn't alone like Klein, and is never truly in any danger. It shows a different light to the strange and dangerous world, even having comedic undertones occasionally. Those with Thalassophobia be warned.

TLDR for similarities and differences:

Similarities:

  • Cosmic horror, SCP inspiration
  • world building and vibes
  • mysteries
  • slow pacing
  • multiple identities

Differences:

  • cosmos vs. ocean
  • weak to strong vs. strong from the start
  • tragic undertones vs. comedic undertones

Astral Pet Store (Novel)

Astral Pet Store (Novel)

What’s not to love about my new life after transmigrating into a pet-centered world? There are mighty creatures that come in all shapes and sizes. They can either be cuddly companions, helpers in your daily life, daring scouts or strong fighters. Or all of the above. Not bad, huh? I have a family, but the fact is completely overshadowed by my younger sister. She thoroughly hates my guts, and she makes sure that I know this. Every. Single. Day. Did I mention that she’s disgustingly talented while I am a bottom feeder? A terribly handsome one at that. I have free rein to run the family business on my own. A small and quaint Pet Store. It should have been great if not for the fact that the previous owner of this body was born with ZERO affinity to handle Astral Pets… It wouldn’t be a proper transmigration without a gimmick or a system to pave my road to greatness, don’t you think? I have one, but I don’t know if I would be better off without it…

I Am the Fated Villain (Novel)

Immediately after Gu Changge realized he had transgressed into a fantasy world, the world’s protagonist, and fortune’s chosen, vowed to take revenge on him. Envied by all, he not only has the female lead head over heels for him but he’s also treated as a distinguished guest wherever he goes. Fortunately, Gu Changge’s prestige and power are superior to everyone else’s, so shouldn’t it be easy to trample on a mere fortune’s chosen? Hold on… There’s a system dedicated to milking and harvesting from the protagonist? Gu Changge smirked. “Seems like even fate wants me to fulfill my destiny as the Villain of this world!”
