Locker & Opener

There’s no lock Detective Dobin Kim can’t open. With his unique ‘opening’ ability, he can unlock anything -- even people -- to get the information he needs to hunt down criminals and solve crimes. Enter Locker -- his polar opposite and his enemy. When Locker uses her ability to ‘lock’ a witness and prevents Kim from accessing key information in a crucial case, they plunge into a cat-and-mouse game with justice itself at stake. When two equal forces collide, who will emerge the victor?

Pretty good! For me this does some things really well and some things not so well. So let's list what's good and you can decide if it is your cup of tea. Features: proper enemies-to-lovers, action-packed story, morally ambiguous MC's, beautiful art, creative power interactions, and a protagonist with a rather unusual post-redeemed -> corruption arc. It's rare to find a romance story where the MC's are legitimately trying to kill each other at first, it's savage and it's great lol That's all you need to know to decide really! You can infer spoilers from what I write after, so it is up to you if you want to read on. Weaker aspects: * The side characters start strong but become reduced to exposition/plot-devices as the story goes on. * A vigilante antagonist arc felt weak. This character is shown as rather reasonable, empathetic and frankly a better person then both MC's, despite being the one actually killing people lol Then, in a very quick chapter span, they devolve into a delusional lunatic, devoid of personality or humanity. After that the villainous villain gets defeated yay! This totally fell flat for me. * The ending. But! lets just say if you are looking for a romance then you won't be disapointed. So why do I write this? It felt like the author wasn't commited to their resolution, or changed their mind partways. The ending comes across as a bit generic or half-hearted. * The heroine/ML's actions didn't match the resolution she was given. Same with the MC but to a lesser extent - If it was a corruption arc, stick to that. If it was about redemption, there needed to be more redemption you know? Conclusion: I have to give credit to this manga for being so ballsy with how criminal the MC's are, the cutthroat viciousness at the start and the protagonist had a tonne of potential. Since the ending and villains are such huge factors (and they did my favourite data-loving side character dirty lol) I can only give a conditional recommendation!
