Kaze Hikaru

Into this fierce milieu steps Kamiya Seizaburo, a young would-be warrior who, though lacking in combat experience, possesses a fiery enthusiasm to both aid the Mibu-Roshi in their mission and to avenge his wrongfully murdered family. One of the Mibu-Roshi's most gifted (and immature) swordsmen, the legendary Okita Soji, agrees to take Seizaburo under his wing. What no one suspects, least of all Soji, is that Seizaburo is actually a girl named Tominaga Sei in disguise!

Reasons you might like Kaze Hikaru...

NeaRetrogamer NeaRetrogamer says...

Both manga star a tomboyish girl that joins a task force of sorts (a library defense force in one case, the policing corps of the Shinsengumi in the other). Due to this, in both there is also quite a bit more action, as well as conflicts of a political nature, than your typical shoujo manga. And in addition, in both the MCs end up having feelings for the superior they look up to (though the romance is much more slow burn in Kaze Hikaru).

Nina to Usagi to Mahou no Sensha

Nina to Usagi to Mahou no Sensha

During the war, people with magical ability were used to power magical tanks by biting on various magic plates. After the war was nominally over, rogue magic tanks still wreak destruction everywhere they go. Little Nina, after spending years being forced to use her magic to power a tank used to fight these rogue tanks, has become homeless and starving. When she attempts to steal food, she runs into a group of girls that are driving their own tank. Rather than hurt her, they take her into their home. The group of girls comprise a private tank squad, called "Rabbits", which fights to defend their town from rampaging rogue tanks. After taking so much abuse in the past, Nina is understandably skeptical of the kindness the "Rabbits" show her, but she soon realizes that they can actually be trusted. Nina becomes the newest member of the Rabbits tank squad, dedicated to using her strength to protect others!

Asami is a girl who adores reading books in an old library in her hometown, almost as much as the person who works there. That person is the librarian Mizushima-Sensei, who is quite unusual, but also very popular because of his young age. When someone begins to write graffiti in the books Asami loves most, it seems there’s trouble within the small library. Can their love of books and the dream of a wonderful library bring these two characters closer together?
