Goddammit! Speaking ill of such an innocent children's story just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and makes me feel like a grouchy grouch. But I can't deny that this manga sucks. It's simplistic. I don't get attached to any of the characters, and even the smiles don't resonate with me. The idea of giant cones of stacked books just got on my nerves instead of endearing me to the world. The example of Layla failing in the beginning and Noah giving fem a pep-talk felt stilted and heavy-handed, all the more so because of how Layla then recollected that conversation only a few minutes later during the climax. There is a full-color spread in the middle which is well-drawn, and the art throughout is pretty decent, but that's about the only nice thing I can say about it. I think the target audience for this manga is young children, so just keep that in mind before reading it.
