The manga is built upon uncovering the purpose and inner workings of the cult that is controlling this island--with their creepy, sexual shadow ritual and their topless, ox-headed enforcer who kills those who violate their rules. The main character is Yuuma, who is thrust into the position of being the next head of the Nuenaki household, which is at the center of this cult. Fe is the one trying to uncover these mysteries. What are they hiding? What's in the sacred ground? Why are they topless? At first, I was definitely engaged by the mysteries and was looking forward to seeing how they'd be answered.
But by chapter seven, all the mysteries are explained and the answers are...not very well thought out. Though to be fair, there is a justifiable reason to keep people from going in to the sacred ground and it's honestly a serious enough thing that they may have even been justified in their killing of the violators. But! that's where the sensible explanations stop. They try to claim that Yuuma being a male heir and being able to inseminate many partners will somehow allow them to consume the threat. How? How does that make sense? How does having many offspring increase the ability to consume the threat? Is each person only able to consume a set amount? And if the Kanjiki is about consuming, then how does this tie into the ritual involving sex (because it does)? Is the act of consuming actually the act of sex? Because if so, how on earth does sex get rid of the threat?
On top of that, the ending drama with the crazy lady is a very disappointing and stupid piece of storytelling. Even with the plotholes and weird and out-of-place obsession with breasts, I was still largely entertained by the story up to that point. But that final plotline brought this manga down into the realm of unenjoyability for me. As for the artwork, if you enjoy nudity and pseudo-nudity (where even clothed, their female form is unnaturally on display), then you may enjoy it. But for me, such extraneous sexualization was actually a point against it and made it obvious that the author was more concerned with putting as much ecchiness into the story as possible than with telling an actually well thought out story.
On an island trenched in tradition and secrets, a young boy is set to inherit the Nuenaki household after the passing of his mother, Yuuma has no intentions of doing so but after some unforeseen events he has no choice and has to become the next head of the Nuenaki household.
Story is intriguing and suspenful, but soon becomes rushed and has an open ending with no real conclusion.
Art is great, but make no mistake this is a 'tiddy' manga through and through.
Characters don't get much 'screen time' but are ok nonetheless.
I couldn't find out whether this was rushed, axed or just meant to be incomplete, and I liked the art and the potential story and was thus disappointed with the shortness and ending of the manga.
I think it's only fair to review this in two ways: The Main plot and the Omake plots, but in some ways, they overlap. And by overlap I mean titties.
After the jump, boobs.
Story (Main)
So, it starts out great: This guy is running, he has a mask over his head, or some kind of sack with an eye hole (Eye, only one to make it even more frea-kay) and a mouth hole; screaming for someone to save him because OH SHIT He is being chased by this fine ass woman in an ox head mask! Who cuts him down as blood splatters on her fine, fine rack. And let me tell you, it is a fine rack.
That pretty much sets you up for a tale of boobs, mystery, marginal horror and oxes. Oxen. Yeah, oxen.
The mystery, is great. There's murder and a want of knowing what will happen next. I was genuinely curious about the dark, evil secrets about the island, and the ox women who go around topless killing people. It has some nice suspense and really builds up, answering some questions later on and you learn plenty. But... the ending kinda loses it's way and becomes... how can I put this elegantly... fucking shit. It's a shitty ass non-ending crap that leaves no proper resolution and squanders the final act, giving the impression that it was axed. It really kills it and it's a damn shame. Opened up more questions after answering so many...
And man, don't get me started about the titties. There is a FUCKTON of fanservice, or an absolute METRIC FUCKTON of it. I emphasize the all caps because ermagod the boners are real! That cover ain't no lie, as it just slaps on the titties and engrooves (Wut) it into the plot like PB and J. Or Tortilla chips and cheese with bits of bacon and salsa. Total plot man, all the plots. And the titties range from niiiiice (Above average?) to Seikon no Qwaser at it's finest.
It had potential, but it could have been so much more.
Story (Omake)
Titties. And this guy, gets alllllll the bitches. All the fine ass honeys in the original manga? He gets them. And it is fucking glorious.
Art (Main + Omake)
Titties and rampant boner inducing fanservice aside, I really liked it. Clean, not rough, good line work and some decent scenery. With that crap out of the way, the boobs. SO GOOD MAN. And there is so much fanservice that you wonder why the fuck didn't this guy just create a harem of these gorgeous babes who would do anything for him? They got the style, they got the urge to please and they are all gorgeous. There is some variety in the mammaries and you gotta give it props for that. With all the boobies, I cannot find fault in the art, because I'm a classless bastard.
(Like... an 8 or sumpthin?)
Oh, and the crotch shots. So many crotch shots.
Characters
Omake isn't big on characters. But the boobs, heheh. MC's a nice guy, his big sis is hot, the twins are smoking hot and some of my favs, the black-haired glasses stunner is mad sexy and the Ox Gal is truly something.
I don't really have anything else.
Overall
It's a shame that I have to give it such a low score but the ending man, the ending licked goats. Believe me, if I could rate it on the boobs and fanservice alone, I would and have this review shamelessly biased towards those two fine reasons. But the ending despite the stuff that came before it really kills it. Great up to that point though.
