Koukando ga Agaranai Manga

As the only daughter of a wealthy merchant, Rikka had been spending her days peacefully. One day, her father brought back a surly young boy. Bewildered by him, who was filled with wariness, a pop up screen suddenly appeared right before her eyes; In there were things like his name, age, and favourite food... his status had been displayed! Once she saw that, Rikka's memories resurfaced. It appears that this world was from an otome game her little sister used to play in her past life. And, according to the screen, the young boy's favorable rating for her was an impossible minus 30!

All shoved into a single volume, it’s very rushed and doesn’t give you much time to get attached to the characters, but it is a cute short story. It’s one thing to stick to a plot and cut out any filler, but it’s another thing to jump around adding more plotlines and rushing through things like “by the way, this also happened” and “sidenote: these characters are like this over here” and rush it in a few panels and then finish it all up with a deus ex machina, the end. :/ I’m not really a huge fan of ‘psuedo-incest’ myself in the first place, and am of the opinion that it doesn’t matter if you’re not blood related, if you’re raised together- it’s kind of messed up to get together romantically. Regardless, just judging the story by its other qualities, it still falls quite a bit short.

This is like the 3rd adopted siblings romance I've stumbled upon this week. Why is Japan so obsessed with this trope? Other then that nothing stood out about this story. Very mid. The plot twist at the end was fun though, wasn't expecting that.

For a manga about raising Affection Levels, it feels weird that Licca doesn't even attempt to check the Affection Levels or pop-up screens of anybody other than Geralt. It also feels a bit strange that Licca is so bothered by Geralt seemingly hating fem and puts in so much effort attempting to raise feir Affection Levels. This lack of good characterizations honestly ruined the vast majority of this manga for me, though I did find the plot twist in the final chapter to be somewhat interesting. That said, the plot twist also just raises more questions about the early chapters (like, why did Geralt's Affection Level go from -30 to -27, then to -10? It explains why it hit 0, but what about all those other changes?). This manga just feels very haphazardly thrown together, trying to check certain boxes of manga in this genre but not doing a good job of stringing things together. The artwork is pretty good. The characters look attractive and nice. The dogs--both of them--look dumb, though.
