Both manga are about teenage friend groups with lgbt charecters and how they relate to themsleves, their peers, and the world around them. They discover who they are and learn about the people around them with the writing emphasizing thought and emotion.

Both manga are about slow-burn, tangible LGBT romance feelings, with some pretty serious, realistic depictions about what that means in a society where LGBT is frowned upon eg staying in the closet and keeping romantic feelings under wraps for fear of ruining friendships etc. Both are also set in high school with school life being a big focus, with some realistic friendships etc along the way. And both really take their time with building the romance and plots. They're both beautifully written and I do think if you like one, chances are you'll like the other too. :)

Smells Like Green Spirit

Smells Like Green Spirit

Mishima, a student at a school in the countryside, is bullied by his classmates. The reason is because he's seemingly gay. In reality, Mishima does like guys so he doesn't resist their bullying, and instead, finds solace in secretly cross-dressing. One day on the rooftop, Mishima finds the lipstick he'd lost before in the hands of Kirino, one of the bullies... and Kirino was about to put on the lipstick that Mishima used on his own lips. This is the story of young boys looking for a place they can really be themselves...

It's not as heart warming as this one, but it's funny and more light-heated--and also discuss homosexuality like this manga (in a different manner though--still refreshing).

The two mangas have similarities if you compare it with each other, like the misunderstandings and many more. If you'd like Koimonogatari then you should try this too, both are cute and a bit complicated but I know that it'll be very good.

Our Dreams at Dusk: Shimanami Tasogare

Our Dreams at Dusk: Shimanami Tasogare

Not only is high schooler Tasuku Kaname the new kid in town, he's also terrified that he's been outed as gay. Just as he's contemplating doing the unthinkable, Tasuku meets a mysterious woman who leads him to a group of people dealing with problems not so different from his own. In this realistic, heartfelt depiction of LGBT+ characters from different backgrounds finding their place in the world, a search for inner peace proves to be the most universal experience of all.

While Koimonogatari centers around a gay man and Boys Run the Riot around a transman both are centered in a highschool enviorment with teenage main charecters. The authors show care in their writing to express what it is like to be lgbt+ growing up in Japan. Both stories have excellent writing quality instead of conforming to classic tropes and are thought provoking.
