During the era of the Tokugawa shogunate, there existed 12 samurai families that served under the emperor. They were called the "Tokugawa Jyuni Shinshou." Each of these samurai families passed down generations of each of their own unique martial art styles, and their mission was to protect the peace brought about by the Tokugawa shogunate. Kuroshima Kotetsu, our main character, is the younger of the siblings in the Kuroshima family. The Kuroshima family is one of the 12 Shinshou families. Kotetsu will be in-line to succeed the next position as the master of the family, or so it was supposed to be until the invasion of the Black Ship. The invaders aboard the Black Ship brought with them weapons with enormous power, crushing the Japanese government. Kotetsu will now have to become stronger and fight for his beloved country and save the Japanese people.

Ouka is the great empire that rules over 1/3 of the world. To prevent conflicts from the other countries, they hold the battle competition once in every 8 years. In this competition, 5 candidates, known as "Patriots", from each countries are to battle against each other and the winners will be granted with fame and honor. This story follows Kurou, the boy who walks the same footsteps as his father to become the strongest patriot, along with his team.

Chinmi is a young Chinese boy devoted to martial arts training. Word of his skill reaches the kung-fu masters at the famous Dailin temple who invite him to study with them. Through his own dedication and the guidance of his teachers, Chinmi becomes one of the top students at the temple. Eventually the time comes for him to leave Dailin and make a pilgrimage. On his journey he faces a number of dangers that test his skills, but he also meets many people who inspire him in different ways. A chastened but determined Chinmi returns to Dailin for advanced training. But soon his skills are needed again—the Mongol hordes are nearing the temple.

Soah is a lively human boy who dreams of becoming strong enough to defeat the Jotunn. He is also inspired by Thor, the heroic God of Thunder, who has patrolled around Midgard in order to eliminate all the Jotunns, protecting powerless humans, and Soah's friend. One day, after Thor returned to Soah's village for a short stay, Soah got captured by the Jotunn while he's training. Despite of his hesitation to attack the Jotunn because of the friendship they shared, Thor finally destroyed the Jotunn, but killing Soah as the result as well. Seeing Soah's determination, Thor bestowed all his Meging into reviving Soah, sacrificing himself. Several years passed by since the incident, Soah now is traveling out of his village along with three Meging weapons Thor left behind, in order to carry out Thor's will and protect Midgard from the Jotunns.

The story develops around the two siblings, as they fight magical monsters and historical warriors. The major part of it is a battle called "Shadow Skills" that is fought with only the hands and feet. It begins when the historical warriors chant the words "We are invincible!" and obtain superhuman powers.

Youka is a young 13-year old boy. One day, his Uncle, Kakusei, has him follow in his steps of martial arts and has him study the art of Zenshinkyou. After being mistreated, Youka runs away Zenshinkyou. He stumbles on a Forbidden Tomb where he finds a beautiful young woman, by the name of Shouryuujo. After a short time, Youka is eventually accepted by Shouryuujo to study the techniques of the Koboha under her, and thus begins their adventure through martial arts and love.
