Kaminashi Nozomi (17) is an exceptional gymnast. So much so that colleges with some of the best gymnastic programs are trying to recruit her. Unfortunately for them, she has other plans. Due to her family being extremely poor, money is everything to her. That's why she wants to step into the world of "Keijo." "Keijo" is a type of gambling sport where girls stand on a small floating platform and compete against one another. The aim is to push the other contestant off of the platform into the water, but they are only allowed to use their butt or breasts to push the others off. Will Nozomi be able to compete in the intense world of "Keijo" and bring wealth and fortune for her family?

Considering the translations for Keijo!!!!!!!! are finally completed, I figured it's about time this manga got a review here as well. Those who have been following anime news in the last couple of years will probably have heard about the anime adaptation, which spread the wacky premise to a broader audience. For those who haven't heard of it: Keijo is a sports manga where female athletes in bikini have to push others from various types of platforms into the water... but they can only hit others using their ass/hips and breasts. Some people are probably turned off by the very premise. And honestly, that's okay, because this manga is very much exactly what it promises to be: a pretty formulaic sports manga (you know, train - get friends - learn new techniques - overcome superior opponents...) that would be considered quite generic if the sport wasn't so unique and fun. If you've ever read any other sports manga, then you probably know you can't always expect realistic techniques. Keijo is no different: the various techniques are so crazy and impossible that you don't need to "suspend your disbelief", you should just throw your disbelief out the window and consider it to be practically a fantasy world. Unless you can actually believe in using breasts as drills, creating vacuum bullets with a hip snap, creating fire by rubbing your ass cheeks or using photosynthesis to power up your ass muscles... among other,  even crazier stuff. You'd think this would get tiresome, but the way it's played totally straight and all characters animatedly explain how awesome it is just makes you go with the flow. The mangaka's drawings are also very adequate for maing the action look cool, although the art is definitely not great enough to be "top tier" among the manga I've read so far. Now, the quite erotic concept of the sport and unrealistic elements may make some people wary of the potential character designs this could unleash. Fortunately the mangaka didn't fall into the trap of making all the girls have enormous boobs and butts. There is an enormous variety in body builds, with muscular girls, thin girls, big boobs, flat chests... In short, there's about as many different body tipes as would be realistic in a sport like this. The variety in the character's looks also extends to their personalities and backgrounds. It's a fun cast with a great dynamic, allowing for some people who are not the main character to get lots of time in the spotlights as well (and honestly, I didn't read for the MC - most of her friends were more interesting to me. She was more of a window to see the other characters through imo). A final thing that should be adressed is the ending, because sadly the manga got axed. You can find an article about the authors reaction here: link. I personally think the ending is fine still, although obviously rushed and it's still sad he couldn't tell the complete story he wanted to tell. In summary: it's an interesting manga about a very unique sports concept that gets pretty crazy and doesn't fall into any of the pitfalls you'd expect when hearing the premise. If you like the idea, give it a go!
