STORY: The world-building was well done, with the effects of the curse/disease being visually creepy and the cause of it being acceptable (even if it does include a cliched idea). There are still some questions left unexplained, but not to the level that it feels like there's more questions than answers, if that makes sense. When I finished the story, I felt like it'd reached a satisfying resolution. I liked the narrative choice of the journal. My one sticking point with the storytelling (and this might've just been a translation issue) is with Hideo's line "I haven't seen you in ages" since that suggests a sizeable time skip had occurred and, if that's the case, then that time skip wasn't adequately portrayed. ART: The artwork is good, but I don't think I'd consider it great. The characters can look pretty similar to each other and the proportions shift from panel to panel (like with the size of the chins). The insects look very good and the creepy parts look very creepy. CHARACTERS: As with most of Junji Ito's stories, the characters were very nondescript and forgettable. In fact, I'm probably being generous with a score of 5/10. The doctor is probably the only character who's at all interesting and who isn't just a ripple of the plot. OVERALL: I think I'd recommend this story to fans of horror. It's a quick read and it's pretty decent overall.
I just bought Junji Ito's collection and I can highly recommend it if you like some good horror stories. This one is my favourite so far. I like gory things and this one was very well done. The story is good but what's even better is the art style. It is worth reading, I'd recommend.
