This does connect to the main series, though I guess I won't disclose exactly how in case that would somehow spoil things. I will say that this would probably be most appreciated if it was read after the other series rather than first. The way the children initially wait for the adults to show up felt a bit weird, but I guess it sorta makes some sense. It was also strange for the second spaceship to arrive so quickly after theirs had landed. The wish-granting mechanics are weakly explained and aren't used nearly as much as one might assume. But overall, it was a decent enough short story that adds a little something extra to the main story.
