Nothing beats a good school-based comedy with magical elements, and both Kagami and Yamada contain plenty of those with a bit of romance (More prominent in Kagami) and a nice dose of perversion. The magic in both of these series though isn't single-person oriented, as in they need two people for it to take effect. If you have, by some stroke of luck, read either one, check out the other for more of the same style of fun.

Very nice drawing, more "fan-service" and romance by Kagami. Both stories are about some insignificant guy ending up the center of attention of some nice girls... and the resulting misunderstandings.

Yakoz Yakoz says...

Magic is involved in both stories. These two shounen have a similar kind of comedy, they look good and, of course, romance is key.

Pretty Face

Pretty Face

Rando Musashi is a tough guy, an obnoxious karate star, the school troublemaker and... the most popular girl in school?! Rando was riding the bus home one day when a sudden crash resulted in a horrible wreck. He was immediately taken to intensive care under plastic surgeon extraordinaire Dr. Manabe, who treated Rando's maimed face. Yet unfortunately Dr. Manabe mistook a picture of Rando's school crush for a picture of how Rando looked before the accident. Rando awakens from a coma a full year later to find that he now has the face of Rina Kurimi, much to his dismay! He rushes out of the clinic in terror, only to run into Rina herself, who mistakes Rando for her twin sister that ran away years ago. Now living at Rina's house, Rando is now forced to play the part of Yuna Kurimi while at the same time searching for the real Yuna and attending school. Even with the help of Dr. Manabe, Rando has his work cut out for him!

Boy that has long time crash on girl ends up (through a magical mirror in KnKnH and thanks to a mad scientist in PF) really close to the object of his affections. What happens next is pretty much stereotypical. Boy protects girl from harm's way and at the same time fends off potential boyfriends. I found KnKnH to be more entertaining but nonetheless very similar to PF.

Same drawing, same author, same fun.

Kagami no Kuni no Harisugawa is a bit more daring though ;-)

They are written by the same person, so if you liked one you'll definitely like the other.

Honestly, I feel that the two lead characters are the same people in a different universe (somewhat like Cardcaptor Sakura/Tsubasa Chronicles).

Arisa²

Arisa²

As a child, Morisaki Shinichiro made a promise to a girl when she was about to move away. On his way to school, he meets a girl who trips over a rock and lands right on him, passed out. He brings her to the school's nurse's office. In class, a new girl comes running in shouting Shinichiro's name. She looks awfully familiar to the girl Shinichiro brought in earlier. The girl he saved in the morning is named Sawatari Arisa, the loud one is named Sawatari Alyssa. While their names are identical in pronunciation, they have no apparent relation. Shinichiro looks at Arisa and thinks she's the girl from his past as she's very bashful and shy. However, Alyssa wears the cat-ears that he remembers and she also remembers him. When he goes home, he finds out that his uncle, who he lives with, has taken the two girls into his house.

Tsukiatte yo! Satsuki-chan

Tsukiatte yo! Satsuki-chan

When she was a little girl, Satsuki made a promise to her friend Tetsu that if he became strong and able to protect her during the 10-15 years he would be living and studying in Chine, she would date him. Well, 10 years have passed, and Satsuki has grown (oh boy, has she) and is very strong at karate in her own right, and Tetsu is coming back. And he is strong, although he hides it at first. Thing is, can she compete with all of the other girls who are now interested in Tetsu?
