Jisatsuya Honpo - Reviews

The implication of this story is that, deep down, suicidal people don't actually want to commit suicide. That it's just a depressive phase. And that outsiders just need to find the right ways to manipulate suicidal people in order to talk them out of those impulses. I think that's a condescending attitude. Which is especially unfortunate since I think the target audience for this oneshot is people with suicidal thoughts (I think it's intended to be something of a suicide prevention thing) and I can't imagine that anybody would enjoy being condescended to. Though perhaps the target audience is another group altogether. Or perhaps I'm wrong and this type of condescension is something that some suicidal readers appreciate. I guess I'm not sure. Whatever the case, though, neither the overall narrative nor the "plot twist" were all that interesting. It simplifies the emotional complexity of humans down to a level that's almost insulting in order to have the story tied up in a neat little bow by the end.
