An outsider in a school full of talented people, without the extraordinary gifts that determine status in the student body -- yet despite this, gifted with an ability that relies solely on the power of his own intelligence. This is the core story in both Iris Zero and The Irregular at Magic High School. If you like one, give the other a look.

Hyouka

Hyouka

"If I don't have to do it, I won't. If I do have to do it, make it quick," is the basic principle by which energy conservationist Houtarou Oreki lives. But after his sister convinces him to join the Classics Club, Houtarou's life is turned upside down when he meets Chitanda, a perpetually-inquisitive girl who challenges the boy's easygoing existence. Intrigued by the slightest hint of a mystery afoot, Chitanda doesn't hesitate to pester the reluctant yet highly analytical Houtarou into satisfying her curiosity at every turn, no matter how small the problem. Alongside fellow members Satoshi and Ibara, the group tackles cases ranging from a self-locking classroom door, a strangely-popular library book, and even the shadowy history of the very club to which they belong!

Reasons you might like Hyouka...

abunai abunai says...

Both Hyouka and Iris Zero build up their story about essentially human emotional dramas, the interplay of personal feelings. In both stories, there is a standoffish male lead with a gift for seeing into people's deepest motivations and breaking through layers of mystery -- and his burgeoning love interest, a sweet and positive girl who helps motivate him to act on others' behalf. If you like one of them, you'll surely like the other.

The movie retells the main story from Suwa's point of view. It will also tell the story after the original manga and the television anime, and therefore a story not told anywhere until now.
