I Want to Eat Your Pancreas - Reviews

I at first thinking about giving this 8.5 / 8.8 because I'm bad at rating, but I changed my mind into giving it a 9 

I have been avoiding this manga and the anime for as long as I could as the title never piqued my interest. But today I decided to just pick a random manga or manhwa to give a review to and this is what I came across of. 

I started reading this manga without reading the synopsis first knowing that it is well known for a reason, not knowing what to expect. A few chapters later then I remembered seeing people talking about how the anime makes them cry. Of course I didn't expect myself to even be giving in to that. 

For a girl who knows that she only have a year left, she is the complete opposite for someone who is currently dying, she's cheerful, energetic and everything you can think of about someone who's happy-go-lucky. Never actually seemed to struggle with her health as she's not showing it but instead keep on making a joke about it, maybe one of a way to help her cope. 

The friend's action, Kyoko sometimes displaying an act of immaturity and childishness when he didn't even do anything which I do at times find unreasonable, but that didn't make her a bad person as I thought she would be. 

I like the way Sakura is giving him the talk about communicating with other people and so forth, 

She's starting to be the part of his life now where he uses his time to visit her in his free time and clearly I did not expect him to change from someone who's a complete loner and introverted who's focusing only on himself to someone who's starting to even observe other people and showing an interest in other people after just a few months meeting her. 

This has a bittersweet ending. I really find it unfair though. 

I really didn't expect him to get attached to her, 

But somehow I did too. 

I usually don’t like reading too much manga, but, for this, I read it all. I couldn’t put it down. The emotions of the characters, myself crying. The ultimate, pure, perfect masterpiece the author wrote... words cannot describe how amazing it is. The best “book” I’d ever read. 

I like the way they have the guy being referred to by descriptors in brackets instead of by feir name. It really gives a sense of how within feir own head fe is, plus it's just kinda neat. The guy is very gloomy, though the girl likes the way that fe is self-defiined and doesn't need to be validated by others. In contrast, the girl is very cheery, and the guy likes the way that fe is able to connect with others. They both want to learn to be more like the other person. Though since the story is told from the guy's perspective, it's more focused on fem learning to come out of feir shell of self-isolation and appreciate interacting with people.

I like the general flow and atmosphere of the manga. And I appreciate the attempt on the girl's part to live as normally as possible while dying, though I'm not sure if I care for the bucket list mentality of "living life to the fullest" or the idea that living in depression is somehow less "normal" than living happily. I found the way they added meaning and significance to their mundane choices to be kinda corny, and the whole wrap-up session was also a bit in-your-face with the sentimentality and life lessons and stuff. The whole Kyoko dynamic also felt like it could've been handled better. But overall the experience was good, if a bit saddening.

I read this before watching the anime, but I will watch it soon. The story and progression of it are astounding until the ending. The ending was out of the blue and so random; I felt like anything related to Sakura's cancer would fit a lot more. I personally like the art since it was extremely expressive and helps seem the characters seem a lot more innocent and fit in with the story. The characters have character development and explore dealing with pancreatic cancer while forming a new friendship. Despite the ending being so random, the literal ending of the book did make me cry a bit, so I'm having high expectations of the anime! 

Literally the best book I have ever read!!! (>o<) I would recommend it if you like a slice of life mangas that I like the saddest things ever. Legit I cried so much when I read it. (>.<*).
