Although they start off slowly (and I mean reeeeally slowly), once they get going and the protagonists FINALLY figure out what the hell is going on, I am a Hero and Shiki are engrossing horror stories filled with all sorts of carnage and the undead.
War looms over everyday life in the capital. Two girls who seek respite in the bucolic outskirts of Suginami Ward learn that a riverside where spirits reside is creeping with rotting anomalies. As the adults prove incapable, youth must take up arms.

Velveteen and Mandala and I Am a Hero aren't your run-of-the-mill zombie apocalypse stories. Both feature protagonists who aren't psychologically sound, and the casts of each are far from cliché, which provides much of each's entertainment value.
(Not for the faint of heart)
Yoshiaki Maeda has been falsely accused and detained, along with delinquents from all over the Kanto region, in the juvenile correctional facility, Shouran Institute. Yoshiaki is as typical as a boy can get, so when he finds himself living in this violence-ridden prison, he can't think of anything worse. His cellmates, Iwakura, Yamanoi, and Yoshioka, are a cunning crew and soon Yoshiaki finds himself pulled into a feud going on in the prison. Then suddenly, a prison van crashes into the facility and what shambles out of the wreckage are flesh-eating zombies … and so the curtain is raised on this bone-chilling story of panic and horror…

If you like one im sure you would like the other because in both are about surviving a zombie outbreak. I am a hero starts off a bit slower than Apocalypse but both put real effort into the violence, brutality and comedy into the deaths. Long story short if you like reading manga with shitloads of zombies eating everyone these will both be for you.
Eun-Sung Lee went to work that day like any other, kissing his wife and child goodbye before dealing with the daily office grind. But no one expected that Seoul would collapse that day as it was overpowered by a swarm of giant, man-eating insects that kill or infect everyone in their path, turning most of the survivors into mindless killing machines. What’s worse, anarchy now rules the streets and humans are now just as dangerous as the insect threat. Along with his co-worker Ji-Eun Seong and a battle-hardened old man, Eun-Sun traverses this desperate landscape in an attempt to find his family, and to keep all of them alive against their enemies at every turn.

Hive and I Am a Hero are both apocalyptic tales (about insects and zombies, respectively), and both play out somewhat similarly. A lone protagonist's struggles with the monsters that now plague the world leads to wider themes such as how groups of people behave badly and general issues with society breaking down.
The world has come to chaos. An unknown virus haunts every living soul, and one man is determined to reach his beloved before it's too late. His journey takes him closer and closer, but he faces adversity and strife. That's when he faces reality. He sees the world around him. He sees a world faced with something more dangerous than the virus.

Both I Am a Hero and Subway Line 1 focus moreso on the human monster aspect of a zombie apocalypse, and have a quieter feel (wandering around the abandoned streets, etc)
After an unexpected family tragedy, a reclusive high school student is forced to leave his home -- only to face something much scarier: a reality where monsters are trying to wipe out humanity. Now he must fight alongside a handful of reluctant heroes to try and save the world before it’s too late.
