After We Gazed at the Starry Sky Manga

Tougo Amase is a well-known photographer who focuses on night scenery—and the man Subaru Miyazawa not-so-secretly idolizes from afar. Subaru always assumed Tougo would be distant, just like the stars in his art, so he can’t quite believe his luck when they meet at a trial screening of a new planetarium show. While Subaru is a totally awestruck mess of nerves, Tougo takes it all in stride. Not only that, but he’s hopelessly sweet, carrying Subaru down the steps where he and his wheelchair could never go alone—just so he can watch the exhibit from the front row. Subaru can’t help but think… “…I hope we meet again…”

I had a really hard time deciding on my scores for this review. The problem is that the idea is amazing, but the execution was just a little disappointing to me. For example, I really, really liked the characters, but I scored characters as only a 7 and even considered rating them 6 because the development of them was not even close to as good as it could have been in my eyes. I'm sure the author was limited when they created the first volume thinking they had to squeeze the story into so few chapters and that's why their amazing idea and characters did not get to be fully realized. There were a few short instances where their backstories and underlying emotions and drive were covered, but I always felt like I was left wanting more. That's not to say I did not enjoy the story, it's just that basically it blue balled me. So, do I think this is worth reading? Absolutely. Do I expect that you too might develop a sad case of metaphorical blue balls? Probably.

I did like the idea of this manga having a BL character with a disability but it’s just the plot and character development was too distant for me to really like it….
