These manga may be about different sports, with Haikyuu!! being based around volleyball, but they share so much in common that I find it hard to believe that a fan of one wouldn't enjoy the other quite a bit.

The story in each revolves around a highschool team who's a little bit down on their luck until they get an influx of fresh talent into the team in the form of skilled first years. The main characters in each also happen to be two of these new first years, and not only do each pair have unorthodox skills and stature, but they share a very similar dynamic in regards to their interactions and relationships. From there each team goes through the usual high school competitions, be it at a local or national level.

The supporting cast in each is pretty good, and is often used for comedic reasons outside of matches. During the matches the themes of teamwork and determination to overcome the odds are strong. The matches also happen to be extremely exciting in each, and make the wait for the next chapter pretty excruciating at times.

So if you are a fan of the other, then i urge you to give the other a shot, I highly doubt you'll end up disappointed. And if the sport is putting you off because you're not a fan of it, then don't worry, I'm not a fan of volleyball but i adored Haikyuu!! for plenty other reasons!

Well personally I preferred Haikyuu!! just cause I started reading it when there was only 2 chapters and it's like my baby but any way after reading I can see some similarities

  1. talented first years come to save struggling team
  2. MC is a shortie in a tall persons game
  3. MC is apart of a 2 person team that makes they super amazing

If you are looking for some sport's anime entertainment and you liked Haikyuu, Kuroko's basketball series might just do it for you. Both have that light-hearted moments combined with the seriousness from competitions and lovable characters. The feeling of belonging in the team is another plus (ᇴ‿ฺᇴ)

The best sport anime of all time is HAIKYUU i think. So if any of you thinking the same with me i think you should read it. It is one of the best sport manga/anime. It is different from Haikyuu abut their play styles like Kuroko no basket is a little more impossible to do in real life. But it is an awesome manga. I love the IN ZONE moments. Aomine really hits different.

If you liked Haikyuu!! you'd like Blue Lock because they're both sports mangas and they have pretty similar character dynamics. All of the characters in Blue Lock are super lovable, just like the Haikyuu!! characters.

Blue lock is easily one of the better mangas I read tbhis year. The art is amazing and how Isagi develops in just 100 chapters is incredible.

Reimychan Reimychan says...

Both manga's art style is amazing and modern.

The story/plot is different but they are both sports manga and has great characters in the story.

"Blue Lock" is a football manga, the story itself is very interesting because they’ve gathered 300 of Japan’s best soccer youth players. there are continuous rivalry and friendship going on here.

You may like Blue Lock if you like Haikyuu!! since both are sports manga. Despite being completely different sports, I think both share so much in common. Similar to Haikyuu!!, Blue lock has a great art, lovable characters, and interesting plot.

Both are sport mangas about volleyball. In both mangas, main characters are rather not talented in volleyball, but they have some special move.

Yugami-kun ni wa Tomodachi ga Inai

Yugami-kun ni wa Tomodachi ga Inai

Yuuji Yugami and Chihiro Watanuki sit next to each other in class. Unfortunately for Chihiro, the transfer student Yuuji is weird... extremely weird. Even though he's the ace of the baseball club, he hasn't adapted to the club at all. He also stands apart from the rest of the class, but seems completely satisfied with being alone.

Different sports but both series focus on an underdog story about a character whose small stature cause them difficulties in their respective fields of sports that rely heavily on height. Because volley-ball is a team sport, Haikyuu does have more of a focus on team-building and such but Hanakaku does have a bit of that too as Hana learns from the other ladies in her gym. I'd recommend either of these series if you're looking for an underdog story focused on sports.

I actually think that these manga's are very similar.

Both exciting characters. (Hinata and Yanagi) with groups of interesting side characters, rivals who have to be together, improvement in skills, suspense, and like yanagi is fiercly acting, hinata is moving all around the court!

Both amazing mangas and i recommend both. My recommendation doesn't give it justice!

What World Trigger and Haikyuu!! both do well with several things: (1) a large cast of memorable characters, (2) explanation of the world, battle mechanics and such done organically rather than exposition dumps, (3) and "battle arcs" that serve the purpose of growing both characters and the story at large. I would say Haikyuu!! executes these things better than World Trigger as a work that hooks you and keeps you as a reader. World Trigger is good, pretty good, a solid read. It is a story that grows on you the longer you stay with it. Haikyuu!! is great work. Those charmed by it experience this very early on.

"The power of friendship" and unwavering emotional determination are staples in shounen (young boy demographic targeted) titles. I'm interested in titles that are nuanced from that, works that make your head and heart cock to the side with something that feels more grounded in the difficulty of life.

World Trigger has an overpowered main character. But the true central main character is someone with real inadequacies, has several limitations, and never gets amazing growth suddenly or over time.

Haikyuu!! flows naturally with energetic, driven protagonists that both have and gain skills that look and feel powerful. Caveats of limitations, weaknesses and failures--as well as a long term growth--come along the way. These things exist, are more gradual, but I would say a crucial part of how Haikyuu!! is such a great story.

Eleceed

Eleceed

Jiwoo is a kind-hearted young man who harnesses the lightning quick reflexes of a cat to secretly make the world a better place – one saved little child or foster pet at a time. Kayden is a secret agent on the run, who finds himself stuck in the body of a…um…decidedly fat old fluffy cat. Together, armed with Jiwoo’s super powers and Kayden’s uber-smarts, they’re out to fight those forces who would let evil rule this world. That is, if they can stand each other long enough to get the job done.
