"The World" is a virtual net game that services twenty million players. When a boy with the alias of Kite logs in for the first time, he's joined by his friend Yasuhiko - alias Orca - and together the two travel to find enemies. However, soon after a mysterious woman named Aura appears, followed by a fierce enemy that defeats Orca and sends him into a coma in real life. Determined to save Orca, Kite travels through The World, gaining both strength and companions such as BlackRose and Mistral along the way. In order to bring back Orca he must defeat strange monsters known as the Eight Phases, and the only way to do so is to use the power of a mysterious bracelet - an illegal item that threatens the safety of the entirety of The World. With system admin Balmung watching Kite's every move, can Kite manage to save his friend?
