In the world of Golem Hearts, creatures known as golems have become integrated with society, performing all sorts of tasks. These golems are created by the widely-respected "sorcery scholars," and obey the commands of their human masters without question. Noah is a sorcery scholar who strives to become the second best of his kind.To that end, he travels far and wide to study unique golems around the world. This journey leads him to a certain island, where he encounters a girl named Mary and her golem Murray. As the two get acquainted, we begin to discover that there may be more to Noah than meets the eye.
For what it's worth, the above synopsis is describing the one-shot, not the main series. The one-shot has Noah be on a solo adventure to see the golems of the world. The main series has fem taking quests with friends and rivals in order to be officially ranked as the number one sorcery scholar in the world (with the true number one always being Lamech in Noah's mind). The Noah and Lamech characters are greatly improved when compared to the one-shot--because they're failures. There's a scene in chapter 4, page 6 that made me feel that this manga had potential to be great. But once Noah stops being a failure, feir character loses a lot of feir appeal and the manga starts feeling like stock shonen fodder. Feir mentor, Eir, isn't all that interesting and feir rival, Erebus, sucks. There are three confrontations and a rushed ending. The first confrontation is meh. The second one isn't that great either. The third one introduces the idea of riddle golems (which is sorta neat) and I liked Erebus's involvement. The ending...was horrible, but I can't expect much (I assume the series was cancelled).
