Both stories feature travellers discovering new things and places (although in “Girls' Last Tour” it’s more of a post-apocalyptic survivalistic wandering, while Kino travels to many different countries in order to get to know them). Both can also be seen as philosophical parables, where human nature and culture are examined. There is an appreciation of simple, yet elemental things in life as well in them.

So far “Kino’s Journey” is more disturbing and developed, while “Girls’ Last Tour” is quite simple and more lively, but both stories give me a similar reflective feeling and both are definitely worth checking out. Despite featuring bleak conditions, there is an appreciation of life in them.

Kemurikusa

Kemurikusa

In a desolate world filled with ruined buildings, giant mechanical bugs and a sea of poisonous red fog that blankets the land, a band of sisters travels from island to island. The girls are aided by the power of Kemurikusa, mysterious glowing leaves that their plant Midori produces, but the water they need to keep themselves and Midori alive is getting difficult to find. When they encounter a man who has lost his memory on their travels, they are suspicious of the fact that his body chemistry is nothing like their own; but their new companion is fascinated with Kemurikusa and ends up joining them on their quest for survival. What awaits them in this strange world?

Do you like stories about girls wandering through a strange, ruined world? Then Girls' Last Tour and Kemurikusa are the series for you. Kemurikusa has more action, while Girls' Last Tour is more philosophical.
