Both series take place in the feudal era and involve a girl from the present traveling back to that land. In Fushigi Yugi it is in a more unconventional sense (as Miaka is sucked into a magical book to become a priestess of the Konan land), while in InuYasha, Kagome travels through a well as a reincarnated priestess. Both series revolve around the supernatural and involve a group of highly entertaining characters taking on the demons of their respective worlds.

LittleChomp LittleChomp says...

A teen girl is transported to a new world and gains supernatural powers there. The young men in the new world fancy her school uniform with its short skirt, and both Kagome and Miaka find themselves torn between their responsibilities in school and the tasks that only they can perform in the fantasy world. A fan of one should definitely love the other too.

nihonotaku nihonotaku says...

Although they're intended for somewhat different audiences (FY is shoujo while InuYasha is shounen), both feature a female who gets sucked into a historical world where magic and adventures await her. Both involve the main character making choices between staying in the historical world vs. returning home. The overall feel is similar in both series.

In both manga the heroine gets transported to another world and ends up falling in love with the guy who saved her when she first arrived. She ends up missing her chance to go back to her world and while she's stuck there she agrees to help out the emperor in Fushigi Yuugi or the third prince in Red River, at least until she finds a way to get back to her world.

Female character gets transported to another world/another time. Female character is the target of devious plots is in need of protection...enter in sexy guy(s) who keep her safe from harm. Historical fiction/romance/love triangles in both.

Both are isekai fantasies that deal with not only romance but serious political and interpersonal issues at length.

Both these stories take a normal teenage girl who suddenly finds herself in fuedal china.  In Fushigi Yugi, Miaka finds herself a princess of great honor, and in Crazy Girl Shin Bia, Bia finds herself the fiancee or the prince of the lands.

chamomille chamomille says...

Both manga follow story of a teenage girl who is suddenly transferred to imperial china. Both stories are very romantic, funny and dramatic at the same time.

The main characters are similar too. Both Shin Bia and Miaka are quite strong and self confident, they have supernatural powers that make them special. They seem rude and reckless from the outside but they are pure, loving and forgiving in the inside.

If you liked one, you would surely like the other.

Both series have a female protagonist, however there personalities are far different from each other.  I recommend these since both series have a large amount of story based in feudal china.  If you enjoy the time period and reverse harems, these both are highly recommended.

Canal Canal says...

Both manga are set in a country that resembles ancient China. The heroine tries her best to help out the emperor and the people of the country and is surrounded by many handsome guys.

Both of the series are created by Yuu Watase.  There is a supernatural side to both of the stories and the main heroines have to put themselves through a test of life to decide what is best for everyone. The main heroines, Aya (Ceres) and Miaka (Fushigi Yugi) have decisions to make affecting the outcome of the people that they love. Each series is also a reverse harem.

nihonotaku nihonotaku says...

These two series are quite different in plot, but having been written by the same author, they have many similarities: similar artwork, similar humour, and a similar love triangle. The overall feel/tone of them is similar, so if you liked one, you'll probably like the other.

Both Sailor Moon and Fushigi Yugi have the same kind of elemental/spiritual power associated with each of them. There seems to be a deeper meaning behind the series as well as an association with higher beings. The main heroines in the series are very strong willed and fight for what they believe in, although both heroines also have a whiny side to their character.

Both star happy, food-loving odango-haired heroines who find love while trying to save a world and the people in it. Both of these classic shoujo stories are must-reads for lovers of the genre.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

The characters in Fruits Basket and Fushigi Yugi, with their different personalities, are unforgettable. Fruits Basket deals with the twelve animals of the zodiac and the curse placed upon them, while Fushigi Yugi is a story of a priestess who is trying to find the seven Celestial warriors to unlock the power to save Konan. The heroines of the series, Tohru (Fruits Basket) and Miaka (Fushigi Yugi), both have similar personalities to one another. Both series also have surprisingly sad moments and a dramatic plot line that explores the characters' pasts.

LittleChomp LittleChomp says...

A girl accidentally becomes a part of something magical and decides to help those who are trapped in a world that she barely understands. There's love, danger, and curiosity about new celestial warriors or members of the zodiac. Granted, the structure of these manga may be different (a metaphorical new world vs. a literal one), but the cores are quite similar!

Both Alice 19th and Fushigi Yuugi have the same type of plot feeling to them.  The series are filled with magic and adventure as the male character protects the female lead as she is trying to figure out her own path.

Fans of love triangles and romantic struggles should enjoy both of these titles by Yuu Watase. In each, a girl has two guys confess their love for her, one guy who may slip out of her reach forever, and complications surrounding intimacy. Fushigi Yugi and Absolute Boyfriend are both innocently serious... if you like one, try the other too!

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

When love triangles meet and Yuu Watase gets into the action out pops Fishigi Yugi and Absolute Boyfriend.  With an almost overwhelming sense of drama and fantasy the characters are spiraled into a web of intrigue delving into different types of relationships and what the girls are looking for in a man.
