Yoshiaki Maeda has been falsely accused and detained, along with delinquents from all over the Kanto region, in the juvenile correctional facility, Shouran Institute. Yoshiaki is as typical as a boy can get, so when he finds himself living in this violence-ridden prison, he can't think of anything worse. His cellmates, Iwakura, Yamanoi, and Yoshioka, are a cunning crew and soon Yoshiaki finds himself pulled into a feud going on in the prison. Then suddenly, a prison van crashes into the facility and what shambles out of the wreckage are flesh-eating zombies … and so the curtain is raised on this bone-chilling story of panic and horror…
I really love stories that involve zombies, and this is one might be my favorite. The characters are really great, they have unique personalities, and they have really well developed and interesting backstories, maybe except for the main charcter, who could stand to have a more unique backstory. He's sort of the typical shonen protag with ~special~ powers. He's still cool though. I also really love the relationships between the characters, and im still cheering them on to become CLOSER. (haha) And the zombies.....dude. They are sooo ****** cool! They're super creepy and really one of a kind. Their designs kind of remind me of Left For Dead, but even more gorey and nasty. I highly reccomend Fort of Apocalypse if you want a new and fresh zombie action story with lots of gore, cute felons, and lots and lots of nasty, creepy as hell, unique zombies.
If i were to describe this Manga in one word then it would be Clever. Apocalypse no toride proves that you don't need to have complex stories to create a Masterpiece. The story is usual "To survive in Zombie Apocalypse" What makes it great is Characters witty and Orignal tricks and those situations. It does not follow a single cliche of hesitation or morals. For example: When virus spreads in class the MC is quick to kill his classmates and when others give generic reaction of "Why u kel?" He quickly responds with rational explanation of "I just stopped the virus from spreading, Anyone got problem with that?". He does this without falling into "emo edgy" catogery. Another Spoiler free example: In Chapter 29 our team tries to play heavy metal on radio station to raise people's morale but accidentally play this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pErpuMHceL4 What's amazing is that this little children song's lyrics perfectly matches the apocalyptic setting. It is also very popular in Japan so it worked perfectly. I strongly urgue you to listen it atleast once. At last not only thing Manga offers great entertainment, witty humour and clever combat but also some good Biology knowledge. It's too many birds with one stone.
