Both are sports mangas with totally over the top actions. In both cases characters specialise in one type of play, and pull some humanly impossible moves.Good examples are light-speed running in Eyeshield 21 and shooting across the court with perfect accuracy in Kuroku no Basuke.

Basicly if you like sports mangas, where absurdly impossible things happen on a daily basis, those titles are for you.

miko miko says...

both based on sports, one is football the other is basket ball.  it's an interesting pairing.

Yakoz Yakoz says...

Two of the best sports mangas around. They are very easy to follow even for people who have never played or watched neither basketball nor american football. Good level of comedy, great matches and great characters.

If you liked one manga for its lead, you'll certainly like the other! A typical "zero to hero" scenario where the coward has to muster his courage and head out to battle and ultimately become a better man.

As a bonus, their "tutors" both happen to have spartan styles of training.

It's really difficult not to make parallels between Eyeshield 21 and Katekyo Hitman Reborn. For me, at least. The protagonists are quite similar: Dame Tsuna who doesn't display tremendous skill for anything, but has a big heart and Sena, and often bullied high school student also with a big heart. Both manga deal with the growth and maturation of the main character whilst making great friends on the way. Tsuna and Sena also look quite similar. Though the universes both deal with are vastly different and some themes vary, there's a very similar large underlying. Both series are fun to read and have memorable characters.

History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi

History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi

Shirihama Kenichi is a weak scaredy-cat, and his status as the karate club's punching bag has earned him the name of ‘Weak Legs'. One day Kenichi meets Miu and, impressed by her skill after she effortlessly throws him to the ground, he follows her to the Ryouzanpaku dojo. There he finds five great masters of martial arts, and driven by his desire to become stronger, he begs them to accept him as their student - though it won't be easy. Kenichi endures harsh training (and injury) from Akisame - the philosophizing Jujitsu master; Apachai - the Muay Thai ‘God of Death'; Kensei - the ecchi Chinese Kempo Master; and Shigure - the weapons prodigy. Finally after proving his determination, he is accepted by Shio - the 100-dan Karate Master, who had initially wanted nothing to do with him. Now Kenichi walks the long and arduous path to becoming a master himself, all whilst trying to protect those he cares about from anyone who would dare to harm them.

If you liked History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi or Eyeshield 21, you'd probably like the other because they both are they both involve taking a shy boy and turning them in to a super athlete while adding some comedy at times.  Also, in both they have demon like trainers that put them through extreme training to get better.

Thrawn Thrawn says...

A wuss by any other name joins up with a sport/dojo. Manly sports/martial arts about breaking people and rough n' tumble. Physical contact sports, and these two nancy boys train up to become kickass players, Kenichi as a badass marial artist and Sena of Eyeshield 21 as a badass running back. The road to kicking ass is a tough one, rife with hard training, physical comedy and thrills about and both journeys are well worth making.

Both are sports mangas with insane and over the top actions. Both have character infinitely growing, and pulling humanly impossible actions. Their evolution is followed by naming their ultimate moves (and that names are obviously either shouted by the person doing the move, or by suprised commentator). You can expect stuff like running at the speed of light in Eyeshield 21, or cutting the tennis ball in a half with a racket in Prince of Tennis.

If you like sports shounen mangas, that doesn't bother with realism and instead go for the impossible but appealing movements both titles are for you.

Again!!

Again!!

Kinichiro isn’t even that bad. It’s just that on the first day of high school, his eyes made him look shifty, so people assumed he was trouble. Now it’s graduation, and he’s looking back on three years with no friends. He never even joined a club. But after a bloody collision and an accidental fall, he wakes up a high school freshman, with the chance to try it all over… AGAIN!!

Thrawn Thrawn says...

A club battered and down, on the verge of collapse; one man steps up to the plate and through him, brings the club to glory and salvation. Again!!, takes on the cheering club, Osu! Osu! while Eyeshield 21 focuses on football.

Respectively, it's about a guy who did nothing for his high school life and never socialized; who takes the plunge into a club about cheering for others and making yourself heard. The other is about a coward and craven, who always ran in fear or had his friend defend him because he couldn't; who decides to join a club about bone-crushing sports and looking fear in the eye and charging head on.

These comedies are about overcoming weaknesses and making a change for the better, and changing those they come into contact with.

If you love Hiruma, you might love Mujina. Both are sharp-toothed schemers drawn beautifully by skilled artists. Hiruma is comedically extreme in his violent treatment of others but Mujina is usually the soft-hearted Tadashi. Still, if you like smart characters, it'll be fun - although they're quite different, they have some things in common that may be a selling point to you. As stories, both are fairly fun and light, drawn with exquisite skill with inks and angles. They both have a cast of characters with memorable, colorful designs.
